>>PLEASE NOTE! I do not take insurance. I see patients Mondays through Wed.<< My practice focuses on clients with unusual or very difficult issues and pain, often involving material they wouldn't want stored in an insurance company's records. I work intensively with shame-based disorders, including addiction, trauma, sexual dysfunction and acting-out behaviors. I see many adolescents who struggle with identity and guarded secrets. I have been extensively trained in adult, adolescent and
child

My specialty area is with
children
and families.
In practice in Delaware I am focused on offering services that fit for a small group of people who are looking for specific attention for their felt unique experiences. My belief is that every one has this valid experience of themselves and that some people find this occurs with greater ease than others. My niche seems to be connecting with people who feel out of a box, or caught between the cracks. At the same time everyone is unique including my clients who feel more “every day”. In PA I eased into practice and though I then went to open my office to continue a bit further south(Glen Mills) it allows me to seeing people in PA.

I believe that every individual has the right to live a full and satisfying life. Sometimes things get in the way, such as a history of trauma, unresolved grief, family difficulties, or just "everyday" stressors which feel overwhelming. You may be searching for a therapist because you do not feel as fulfilled or content with life as you could. You may be looking for help for a loved one, such as a
child
or a spouse. Contacting a therapist is the first step toward a journey of healing. I encourage you to take that step today.

With 25 years of experience as a psychologist, I have found that the majority of clients would like to resolve their distressing problems as quickly as they can. I utilize short-term treatment approaches, because they have generally been demonstrated to be as effective as long-term treatment. The approaches I use include cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and family systems treatments.

This rollercoaster of life can feel more scary than exciting. This can make life feel distressing and dizzying, instead of enjoyable or fun. Having someone to help during the downs, and cheering during the ups can make such a difference. Whether you're looking for yourself or your
child
, as a therapist, my role is to support during growth or setbacks, challenge an unhealthy mindset, and cheer on the progress. For families, I specifically look to enhance the attachment within the family and increase skills to reinforce healthy dynamics or develop new ones.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
