Your teen can learn how to conquer their anxiety so it doesn't follow them into adulthood.
Teens and young adults with anxiety tend to suffer a great deal. They often feel out of control, worry a lot, and live in constant fear. Rapid heartbeat, racing thoughts, sleepless nights, irritability, difficulty concentrating are just a few symptoms of anxiety. It can often hit out of the blue making the person feel like something awful is about to happen. Anxiety and depression can put a strain on relationships, cause job difficulties, interfere with school functioning, and make a person's self-esteem decrease. Is the current pandemic causing your anxiety to increase?

>>PLEASE NOTE! I do not take insurance. I see patients Mondays through Wed.<< My practice focuses on clients with unusual or very difficult issues and pain, often involving material they wouldn't want stored in an insurance company's records. I work intensively with shame-based disorders, including addiction, trauma, sexual dysfunction and acting-out behaviors. I see many adolescents who struggle with identity and guarded secrets. I have been extensively trained in adult, adolescent and child psychology. I am licensed and Board-certified, and I am credentialed in addictions, hypnosis, EMDR, and am a Certified Sex Therapist (AASECT).

While dealing with grief and loss, children and teens can experience an array of emotions such as, anxiety, depression, confusion and anger. Children are very resilient, but some can experience significant emotional problems that can persist over time. If the parent or caregiver is also dealing with the loss, it can be difficult for the child or teen to express their complex feelings of grief with this person. They may feel worried they will exacerbate their parent's grief, or may not understand what they are feeling. Having a supportive, objective person to listen to them can help immensely in their process of healing.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
