I also utilize mindfulness, somatic, and narrative practices to deepen self-awareness and self-expression.
We all need support at different times in our lives. Navigating relationships, grief, life transitions, anxiety, loss, and trauma can be complex and overwhelming. If you are feeling stuck, lost, or unsure of what your next step should be, my approach to therapy focuses on helping you understand what troubles you and gain insight toward change that is positive and lasting. In my work with individuals and couples, I take a caring and collaborative approach to therapy to help you discover healing and meaning in your life and in your relationships.

My practice includes listening from a psychodynamic perspective (understanding family and intergenerational dynamics) , focusing on the here and now through somatic and mindfulness techniques, developing a person's intuition, and understanding how a person relates to people in their life through the therapeutic relationship.
It is brave to choose how you want to craft your life. Many people are struggling through big life transitions, are unhappy in their relationships, or they want to move past anxiety and depression. Therapy is a place to understand what is happening now, and how to create something different and better to feel more satisfied. If this is you, I offer a space to look at and understand what is happening in your life, and how you can regain a sense of agency to create what you want. I am warm and engaging, and together we find patterns in your life that keep showing up and getting in your way. We look at how to cultivate what you want.

In addition to psychodynamically oriented talk therapy, I integrate mindfulness, trauma informed approaches, somatic imagery, and EMDR, all depending on your individual needs.
There are times that you might feel stuck in patterns that make life feel unsatisfying and empty. Maybe you feel depressed, anxious or in chronic pain. You may be negotiating a relationship or trying to adjust to a new job. Psychotherapy allows you the space to understand how your past and present intersect and what gets in the way of living life to your fullest while also helping you to tap into your inner resources. My approach is collaborative, thus giving you the space to reflect carefully. I work with you to develop better coping skills and help you to understand & manage complex feelings of anxiety or sadness.

I draw on training in Sensory Motor Psychotherapy, EMDR, DBT and somatic/body based methods.
My practice is designed to give you the therapeutic tools and processing experiences necessary to bring balance to your nervous system. This approach can be helpful for clients who suffer the multi-systemic impacts of chronic and acute stress which can show up as anxiety disorders, PTSD and C-PTSD. People seeking support for anxiety related muscle tension, emotional dysregulation and those who identify as "highly sensitive" may also benefit. If it interests you, we can incorporate mindfulness, meditation, somatic movement, yoga based relaxation training or expressive techniques including role play into your sessions.

In addition to being formally trained in Internal Family System (IFS) Therapy by completing levels 1, 2, and 3, I have advanced training in somatic modalities such as Focusing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Levels 1 & 2).
I am an affirming, trauma-trained therapist who believes in the capacity for healing in a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic space. As a result of our co-created safe space and relationship, you will experience increased resiliency, less reactive behaviors, emotional balance, self-compassion, and an enhanced connection with your internal energy. If you feel overwhelmed by emotions that you consider unhelpful, or if you are feeling hopeless, unsure of what is next, fearful, ashamed, or unable to enjoy life despite being supported and loved by others, therapy might be an ideal opportunity to liberate some of those burdens.

I have certifications in reproductive mental health and trauma and often incorporate expressive and somatic therapies (art, movement, breathing) into session.
I specialize in the treatment of unresolved trauma and difficult life experiences. But I also believe therapy is a comfortable space to get to know yourself better—and a vehicle for hope, whether you are in acute crisis, or simply feeling stuck. Through an integrative approach, I help you identify patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may have begun early in life and continue to affect your relationships or your work.

While I offer traditional talk therapy, I also use a lot of somatic techniques, brainspotting, EMDR, and mindfulness meditation to better access the connection between mind and body, resulting in improved mental and physical well-being.
It may be that life deals us the unexpected, or perhaps things just slowly begin to feel “off”—whatever the case may be, we can find growth and healing by exploring the ways our past affects our present. Scary? Definitely! But accessing these versions of ourselves that have been dormant is what helps us shift from surviving to thriving. Whether you’ve been experiencing anxiety, depression, life transition, trauma, or feeling burned out, I can help become a truer version of yourself. For your convenience, I offer online appointments for clients located in DC and MD, or in person appointments at my office in Farragut Square, DC.

I incorporate EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), as well as elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), mindfulness and somatic experiencing.
Infidelity? Constantly fighting? A sexless marriage? If any of these ring true, you've come to the right place. I provide marriage counseling/couples therapy to adults of all ages, using the evidence-based and highly effective Gottman Method of couples therapy, a structured and relatively short-term approach I've found to be successful. I also provide individual counseling for those who have experienced trauma, including PTSD. A past or current trauma can significantly impact your life, but it doesn't have to dominate your life. For more than 10 years, I've been helping people regain a sense of ease and control over their lives.

We may integrate mindfulness practices, or somatic interventions that work directly with patterns in your nervous system.
Therapy is a creative space where we collaborate to help you discover what you need to live a satisfying, joyful life, and develop the freedom and courage to make choices that honor these needs. As a former corporate lawyer, I have a special interest in working with professionals (particularly lawyers!) who feel stressed and stuck in their careers. I also love working with anyone else urgently asking: What do I actually want? How can I feel more at home in my life and in the world?

Every client I work with is multifaceted and has many identities. I adapt my approach to meet people where they are, and honor the differences between us. People often come to therapy looking for change. I aim to provide a supportive space where change can safely occur. I have training in Somatic Experiencing, and believe that supporting the mind-body connection can be a fundamental part of a full healing and growth process. I believe every person has an innate capacity to heal, adapt, and thrive, once genuine support and safety are in place. Whether you reach out to me or another therapist, I hope you find what you need.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
