I am currently offering Video/ Teletherapy via SimplePractice or phone on weekdays Monday through Friday.
For me, psychoanalytic therapy remains one of the most innovative treatments there are to explore our innermost, often unknown parts of the self—locating both the words and an access to the body that works-through many kinds of pain, meaning, and lived experiences. Symptoms, while being a source of profound distress, reflect meaningful expressions of unconscious desire, inner conflict, and formative personal history. I view my work with clients as bringing them closer to the transformative possibilities that arise when we speak and listen—with patience, warmth and curiosity—for the deeper meanings to emerge.

Do you feel shaped by past experiences in ways you don’t fully understand—stuck in patterns of pain, grief, or intense emotions that feel hard to escape? You may notice repeated relationship struggles, emotional reactivity, numbness, or a deep sense of loss that hasn’t resolved with time. Trauma and attachment wounds can live in the nervous system, quietly influencing how you feel, relate, and see yourself long after the original experiences have passed.

You've done talk therapy before. Maybe it helped you get through something hard, but you're still stuck. The same patterns keep showing up in your relationships, in how you handle stress, in the walls you've built that keep you safe but also keep you alone. I work with people who are done managing symptoms and ready to get to the root. Whether your trauma comes from your family, a relationship, a single event, or something you can't quite name yet, I help people stop going in circles and actually move through what's been holding them back.

You make sense. Every feeling, every thought, every behavior. Even if those feelings, thoughts, or behaviors are clearly getting in the way of your peace, your goals, or the kinds of relationships you want to have. I'm here to help you explore and create compassion for your internal world, because you can't change what you don't understand. Here are a few examples of clients who I work well with: those experiencing a faith crisis/transition, people who value spirituality (mainstream or alternative forms), men with young children, federal workers, and high performers with relationship struggles. I work with individuals and couples.

The populations with whom I work are adults, children, and couples. My primary modalities are CBT and psychodynamic approaches using Two-Person Psychology & Relational Theory. I focus on the importance of the therapist being part of the therapeutic process, and working with people from the beginning of treatment until the end; never wanting the client to feel they are alone on this journey. I hope my process of engaging positively and realistically helps my clients feel confident in themselves so that they can find the courage and fortitude to make the healthy, functional adjustments and changes to themselves which they desire.

I have many years of experience teaching, supervising and providing psychotherapy using Skype and Zoom.
I have more than 25 years of experience in Clinical Psychology divided between both sides of the Atlantic. My professional and personal experience helps me relate to the culturally diverse and globally minded population of the Washington Metropolitan Area. Over the years, after graduating from a mostly research oriented graduate program in Psychology, I pursued intensive training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Psychodrama, Group and Family Psychotherapy, and Psychoanalysis. I am certain that Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, correctly applied, can lead to the most dramatic and long lasting changes in patient's lives.

You may be someone who understands yourself well, yet still feels stuck in patterns that don’t change. On the outside, life may look stable or successful, but internally there’s frustration, emotional overwhelm, or a sense of disconnection. Many of the people I work with have spent years thinking, analyzing, or processing, and are now looking for a way to feel more grounded, regulated, and able to move forward without getting lost in endless self-reflection.

FAQ - About Telehealth Therapy
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
