Hi, I’m Irrin! My practice is about helping people feel more connected to themselves. Life can get heavy; stress, the weight of past experiences, relationships, changes that throw us off track. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out the next step. I don’t focus on what’s “wrong.” I care about who you are today, what you’ve been through, and what’s possible moving forward.
Whether it's because you've gone through some really hard things or because daily life just feels harder to manage, our goal is to find purpose, solutions, and comfort.

As an Associate Professor at Yale Department of psychiatry, I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 20 years. My therapeutic approach is to help individuals and couples better understand the conflicts in their life and find healthy ways to resolve or cope with them tapping into their strengths and their social support. In addition to my private practice, I have been working at the Department of Veterans Affairs for many years as a supervisory psychologist and I have published extensively in the field. I have also supervised psychologists both in the US and abroad. I am licensed to provide telehalth in most states

Most things look fine from the outside, but something internally doesn’t quite sit right. You might notice it in your relationships, work, or how you relate to yourself. Even when you’re holding things together and thinking things through, something doesn’t fully line up, and on harder days, it gets louder.
Over time, patterns show up in how you think, respond, and connect, and they don’t shift as easily as you’d expect. In our work, we differentiate what’s happened from what’s happening now, and integrate both, shifting from “what’s wrong with me” to a more grounded understanding of what can change.

As a therapist, I see my role as that of a companion or guide to help you face whatever difficulty, pain, suffering, or questions you (or your child) might be finding too heavy to sort out alone. Each person who chooses therapy comes with their own unique set of experiences and needs, all of which we will use to inform therapeutic approach. For many, the body, brain, and psyche know and feel things that can be difficult to put in the form of words, at least at first. Thus, I often find great value in utilizing expressive and/or sensorimotor interventions (for example: art interventions, sandtray, writing, play therapy...)

As humans, we all experience hurt, overwhelm, and uncertainty at times. Many of us have had traumatic upbringings that have altered our perceptions of life. Sometimes, we feel as if our past doesn't affect us but somehow we still feel defeated, hopeless, and controlled by difficult emotions, such as sadness, anger, and anxiety. I believe that unresolved trauma and other issues can hinder our progression and cause us to become trapped in cycles that we are unsatisfied with. Because of this, I work diligently to help connect the dots between past and present experiences to facilitate understanding, acceptance, and growth.
