I specialize in helping men in their 20s and 30s.
Receiving support from a therapist who has both been through this journey and done the work to unpack it can be invaluable. I can't understate the value of the counseling I received earlier in my life, and that's why after a decade in business professional I made the shift to be a licensed resident in counseling. I believe you also deserve a mentor.

Those who see me are "normal" women and men with relationship issues that get in the way of having richer, more fulfilling lives.
I recommend group therapy to many individual patients although I will not start a patient in group until we have done a period of individual therapy. Groups offer support, greater awareness of issues, and the opportunity to practice and improve relationship skills during the group experience. Group therapy accelerates progress. Group fee: $225 for 75 minutes

I want to meet with you for a "no cost," 15 minute chat to see if I am a good fit for the situations in your life that are motivating you to seek help.

The rest of my client load is working with individual adults and relationship groups for men.
I love helping men and women meet the challenges of their relationships in new and creative ways of partnering. The men's groups help men to become more aware of their own (and their partner's) needs, feelings, and defensive behaviors which then helps the couple's work move more smoothly.

I like working with both male and female clients.
In my practice, I believe in a partnership with the person I am working with to help manage their concerns. I model Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in my mental health care practice. I have been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. As a young person, I have always wanted to help people. Obtaining a Master's in Social Work (MSW) appeared to be a calling for me. Obtaining his degree would allow me to help people as a profession.

It's a subjective question that many men unfortunately wait until relationship, occupational or medical consequences accumulate before considering.
As a sexual health psychotherapist, I treat what is commonly labeled as "sexual addiction" or "compulsive sexual behavior" as a problem of competing motivations - men wanting to both stop and continue their sexual behavior despite harmful consequences.

Gotel & Thrive is the restorative space for queer and heterosexual men of color, women of color, and children & youth of diverse backgrounds to undo the thinking and behaviors that block joy and provide tools to cope when life forces you to pivot.
You are trying to shine bright like a diamond and have the things most of us desire for a good life. But there is something dimming your brilliance—it constricts you. You know, those feelings of doubt, dread, disgruntlement, desperation, or despair. Like that constant wondering about whether you are viewed as competent at work; like that disappointment you cover up with food, drink or overachieving because you haven’t met “the one;” like that hurt you carry from a past that shamed you or the depths of grief; or like the helplessness feel when your child is struggling.

I have extensive experience working with recovering individuals, adult children of alcoholics, and with men who struggle with depression and articulating their feelings.
As a psychotherapist, I have more than 30 years experience providing clients a safe, non-judgmental environment where issues can be explored and difficult feelings can be identified and expressed. I specialize in working with individuals and couples whose difficulties in early relationships have created corresponding difficulties in the present, including feeling locked into negative patterns of relating, depression, anxiety, and loneliness. I provide my clients the opportunity to learn new more effective ways of communicating and relating that in turn can lead to positive changes in their lives.

I specialize in working with relationships (couples + counseling) and with men's issues (both gay and Straight).
As a relationship and sex therapy specialist, I look at my patients holistically to find patterns that work and patterns that don't. When I find working patterns, I seek to build and grow on those strengths to increase their functionality. For Maladaptive and unhealthy patterns, I work with the patient to replace them with healthier ones.

I am especially curious about interrogating the ways in which patriarchy pressures men to conform to narrow ideas of masculinity, to compete with one another, to see vulnerability as weakness, and to deny ourselves close relationships.
Together we can improve your health, well-being, and help you overcome obstacles that may be getting in the way of life. My approach typically targets how you can be more open, aware, and actively engaged in your life. It is informed by a commitment to healing justice and fostering diversity and inclusion in all spaces. To accomplish this, I use several frameworks that bolster your intrinsic strengths, aid you in shaking free of unhelpful stories, deepen your sense of self-awareness, and allow you to heal collectively with natural supports. I also integrate the wisdom and the life experience that you bring.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
