How do you know if your sexual behavior is out of control? It's a subjective question that many men unfortunately wait until relationship, occupational or medical consequences accumulate before considering. I believe the most important person to evaluate concerns with regulating sexual behavior is the man experiencing the dilemma. I start with two basic questions: "What is your conflict with your sexual behavior?" and "What is your vision for your sexual health?" Since 2001, I have provided a safe, informed and confidential space for sexual health conversations with heterosexual, gay and bisexual men.

In my practice, I like to blend several evidence based approaches; Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Strength-Based Therapy and Trauma informed because each offers my clients something unique that supports the holistic needs of their journey.
Life often throws challenges our way that can make us feel stuck or like growth is out of reach. They might leave you feeling disconnected from your sense of self, unsure of how to move forward, or overwhelmed by life’s demands. But no matter what you’re facing, you don’t have to navigate it alone. We’re here to listen and support you. Together, we’ll explore what’s holding you back and create personalized strategies that empower you to break free from patterns that no longer serve you.

To do this I adopt holistic, blended therapy techniques including Narrative, Psychodynamic, CBT, and DBT therapeutic approaches that don't feel overly formulaic or reductive.
Hi! My name is Derek, and I'm a social worker offering virtual sessions in DC and Virginia. As a therapist, I understand that life can present us with challenges that leave us feeling helpless, depressed, anxious, amongst many other seemingly irreconcilable emotions. Regardless of the specific life challenges we face, these feelings can leave us paralyzed and/or overwhelmed by emotions that distort our sense of self. I believe my role as your therapist is to address these complex feelings by providing you with the means and support to improve your quality of life and cope with the variety of complex challenges life presents us with.

I have a broad range of experience and background in evidence-based practices including CBT, ACT, solutions-focused therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness.
From my experiences, I know that there is no “one-size-fits-all” treatment and work in conjunction with clients to address concerns and identify problem areas. Through providing a nurturing, non-judgemental and supportive space, I help clients develop insight as well as skills to help clients reach their full potential. I work from a strengths-based perspective and believe that the relationship is essential in a therapeutic setting.

Modalities: A Christian Faith-Based Strengths-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy Trauma-Informed, Mindfulness and Wellness Practices.
As a Black Woman Therapist I strive to break barriers and change to traditional stereotypical therapy that doesn't serve our community as black women. I value and honor culturally responsive care and support. Being understood through the lens of a therapist who can share similar life experiences in culture, race, and gender can be the start of your release to begin letting your “strong black woman” guard down. Black women deserve to take up space unapologetically, boundaries that are respected, soft mornings, peace that isn’t earned, to receive support without having to be strong first, and deserve to be taken seriously.

Integrating and incorporating different treatment modalities, I will engage your biological, cognitive, emotional, social, and prosocial self to empower you towards healing.
Seeking help is the most challenging thing that most of us will ever do. Armed with life skills, information, and knowledge, we are expected to have all the right answers. Even if we have endured familial, racial, or socio-economic struggles and barriers, we hesitate to seek assistance because of our conditioning to perfection. This pressure makes it that much harder to speak with an absolute stranger and pour out all our life’s troubles. However, if that stranger is a genuine listener, makes us feel safe, and compassionately transitions us from pain to healing, it becomes easier to let that person in on our helplessness.
