With children , adolescents, and young adults, I combine relationship and calming skills to reduce ADHD and family discord and increase self-efficacy.
I help individuals work on life issues tied to anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, stress symptoms tied to childhood trauma, and families struggling with behavioral challenges. I teach communication skills that help with difficult relationships. These skills include helping my clients improve their power, voice, and contact with significant others. I employ many approaches in psychotherapy, including psychodynamic, gestalt, somatic experiencing (SE), accelerated experiential dynamic (AEDP), cognitive behavioral (CBT) and emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT).

D.C. is a fast-paced area of ambition and achievement. Our beloved city is also an area rife with elevated levels of stress, anxiety, depression, overwhelming expectations, and burnout-exhaustion. This is in addition to other mental health concerns that many face! What emotional support is available to help manage the intense feelings that are sometimes a result of a demanding environment? My practice is ready to help individuals challenged by stress, anxiety, burnout; with a sub-specialization in women, children , and college student mental health.

Gotel & Thrive is the restorative space for queer and heterosexual men of color, women of color, and children & youth of diverse backgrounds to undo the thinking and behaviors that block joy and provide tools to cope when life forces you to pivot.
You are trying to shine bright like a diamond and have the things most of us desire for a good life. But there is something dimming your brilliance—it constricts you. You know, those feelings of doubt, dread, disgruntlement, desperation, or despair. Like that constant wondering about whether you are viewed as competent at work; like that disappointment you cover up with food, drink or overachieving because you haven’t met “the one;” like that hurt you carry from a past that shamed you or the depths of grief; or like the helplessness feel when your child is struggling.

The populations with whom I work are adults, children , and couples. My primary modalities are Two-Person Psychology & Relational Theory, with which I focus on the importance of the therapist being a part of the therapeutic process, and working with folks from the beginning of treatment until the end; never wanting the client to feel they are alone on this journey. I hope my process helps my clients feel confident in themselves so that they can find the courage and fortitude to change, which is the hardest thing a person can do.

I am a child , adolescent and adult psychoanalyst.
In addition to my work with creative and ambitious adults, I work with young children and adolescents to increase harmony, pleasure and satisfaction in life. I treat people who are underachieving in work or school despite clear talent; overachieving in work or school yet at a high price; people who are highly anxious; people who feel hopeless about change; people who are trying to achieve greatness in sports or career; and people who know they deserve so much more but for whom it feels elusive. Let's strengthen your capacity to hear yourself better so your relationships and creativity can continue to flourish.

I have been providing individual and group therapy to children , adolescents and adults in a variety of settings including schools, camps, and community mental health for over 15 years.
Life has its ups and downs. You want to have the skills, resources, and supports to weather whatever the world throws at you and you want that for your family too. As strong and resourceful as we are, no one has the ability to manage everything, all the time. Every now and then, any one of us could use a little extra help. Maybe you have been feeling more stressed. Maybe you are going through a major life change. Maybe there have been concerns about your child ’s development or behavior. Maybe you or your loved one has been diagnosed with a learning or developmental disability, or you want to know more about ADHD, Autism, or Anxiety.

I am available to work with children , adolescents, and individual adults.
When we look closely at our lives, we find patterns-- both positive and negative. It is helpful to examine distressing patterns so that they do not impact present and future relationships. We all face challenging times of trial, and it is important to seek help. If you find yourself wanting to grow, heal, and develop coping skills to impact your future, I would love to come alongside and collaborate on setting goals for healing.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
