My work with multicultural clients highlights the ways in which family-of-origin, immigration and culture inform early life experiences inform our relationships, choices, safety, believe and mental health. People from different backgrounds might be challenged by cultural differences, grief and adjusting, family acceptance/rejection for personal choices, varying communication styles, disagreements on roles, responsibilities and support and more. I work to understand your personal and generational background, work with you to understand the function and origin of your patterns and move toward acceptance and change.

I've been working with stressed out, burned out, overworked, anxious and depressed Washingtonians for over 30 years and call me crazy but I still love the work. It's such a privilege to work with an amazing diversity of smart interesting people! While I have been trained in a variety of different therapeutic modalities I've learned the most from my clients. About half of my caseload is working with couples primarily using the Imago relationship therapy approach. The rest of my client load is working with individual adults and relationship groups for men. Men really flourish in these relationship groups.

Therapy is a unique experience for each person. It helps you learn yourself, your relationships (past and present), and how you interact with the world. It is a place of self healing and understanding. It is a place to find safety and refuge to manage stress, anger, guilt, anxiety, overwhelming feelings, trauma, interpersonal conflict, and significant life events. I work with youth and adults to help address these issues. I am trained as a psychodynamic therapist, practicing from a relational standpoint. I use several clinical approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, and trauma focused therapy as needed.

In each of us there is a wise and compassionate Self. It is already there, and does not have to be created or developed. Too often, however, our access to this Self is obscured by protective and sometimes conflicting thoughts and emotions. These protections were put in place for a reason, but can become outdated and even dysfunctional as we mature. In our therapy together we will uncover what is being protected, release old patterns and emotions, and create space for this wise Self to take a larger role in your life.

Something feels off and being hard on yourself and carrying it alone is not working. Maybe you look fine on the outside, but inside you feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or quietly discouraged about how things are going. Many people I work with are navigating personal struggles while also feeling worn down by the intensity, uncertainty, and division in the world right now. It can be hard to know what’s yours, what’s situational, and how to stay grounded amid it all. We’ll work together to understand what’s keeping you stuck and strengthen what’s already working so you can navigate the survive/thrive cycle.
