The foundation of my approach is rooted in social justice and liberation frameworks. This means an acknowledgement, honoring, and connecting of how our individual and collective communities’ histories, the histories of our ancestors, and cultural backgrounds and identities influence our current lived experiences. My approach to therapy is integrated and holistic— mainly informed through psychodynamic (insight-oriented), somatic (body-focused), and interpersonal process interventions. At times, I might use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy or Exposure and Response Prevention therapy approach if it is a better for my client.

Something feels unsettled. Maybe it’s a persistent sense of worry, a heaviness that’s difficult to name, or relationship patterns that make you feel distant from yourself or the people you care about most. You’ve spent years managing, accommodating, or keeping things moving—but lately, it feels like the cost is too high. You may not have words for all of it yet, but you know it’s time to turn inward, to move differently. My role is to help you make sense of what’s really going on beneath the surface—gently, at your pace, and with care that honors your past, your culture, your identity, and your capacity to heal.

Most of my clients are already working hard on their own lives. They've read the books, downloaded the apps, tried to white-knuckle through anxiety, ADHD, or a stuck relationship, and still feel caught in patterns they can name but cannot seem to change. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and neuroscientist based on the East Side of Providence, steps from Brown University and RISD. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, and the particular weight that high-achieving professionals often carry.

I find a lot of joy in helping teens and adults discover and uncover their truest selves. If you are someone who wants to increase self-compassion, heal from trauma, challenge long held beliefs about yourself or the world, strengthen relationships, process grief and loss, and/or find the inner strength and resources to make desired changes in your life, I might be a good fit for you. I also find it very meaningful to work with people unlearning and healing from diet culture, those taking or considering a GLP-1 metabolic medication and processing the complicated emotions that arise through these choices and the changes that happen.

I create an environment that helps clients explore both the internal and external barriers to their healing and growth. As a psychologist I pull from working with diverse groups of people and assist on issues of trauma, grief, loss, relationship difficulties, wellness and health. To me, therapy is best when it's a mix of approaches that are used strategically to create a nonjudgmental and empathic atmosphere. My style is both warm and thought-provoking, and I actively collaborate with and support those with whom I work.

From the outside, things might look steady - but inside, it can feel like anxiety, pressure, or a constant sense of being “on.” Your mind keeps going. You replay conversations, second-guess yourself, or feel responsible for holding everything together. Even when things are going well, it can be hard to fully relax. I work with young adults who are thoughtful, capable, and often carrying more than they let on. If you’re feeling stuck in your head, overwhelmed, or off balance, therapy can help you slow down, feel more grounded, and start to move forward with clarity.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
