We all have unique stories. Our pasts form us into who we are today, and oftentimes what once worked for us, no longer does. Therapy can help us to gain the insight to understand our stories, but more importantly, help us to choose new ways of living and engaging with ourselves, others, and the world. In the context of a supportive relationship, we will work together to move towards a life where you can experience more meaning and freedom.

I have a particular expertise working with depression, anxiety , perfectionism, work- or school-related stress, relationship issues, and major life transitions.
As a licensed psychologist, I provide individual therapy to adolescent and adult clients looking to better understand themselves and their relationships. People often seek therapy to address symptoms or problems that they want to change, but ironically, this felt need for things to be different can often create more stress. I believe people are more than their problems, and so my aim is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore the connections between your past experience, relational patterns, and current behaviors to help you a achieve a meaningful sense of self-awareness, thereby giving you more freedom and choice.

Healing and change are possible for all of us. I am reminded daily of people's innate ability to mend and grow if they are provided with the right tools in a supportive and compassionate environment. Past traumatic events can leave scars and behavior patterns that can get in the way of people leading the life that they choose. I create a safe space where we can work together to allow scars to heal and transformative change to take place. My clients experience healing from sexual trauma, adverse life events, relationship issues, generalized anxiety and dissociative symptoms and they find freedom from feeling "stuck".

Whether struggling with anxiety , depression, relationship issues, or the stress of everyday life, I strive to tailor my work toward each individual's unique set of challenges.
With therapy, it's all about the fit. There is no "one size fits all" approach. I focus on the person, not the diagnosis. My goal is to assist clients in reaching their personal and professional goals in a safe and confidential environment where they feel understood and heard. With over 15 years experience in "Corporate America" before transitioning to a career in therapy, I am equipped to offer personal life experience to my clients in order for them to develop healthier coping skills and work through unresolved issues.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
