Informed by my own experiences of difficulty and loss , I will approach you with the empathy, care, and honesty needed to build a trusting relationship in which you can safely explore yourself, grow more connected to yourself and others, and practice new ways of doing things so you can move forward in living a life of meaning.
Being human is hard, and is only made harder in the many challenges life can throw your way. In our work together, we will build insight into what patterns you use to navigate life’s challenges, how you learned those ways of being, and how they aren’t working for you now. Through this insight, we will build up your compassion for yourself while finding new tools that will leave you feeling more satisfied, capable, and connected in your life.

I believe in the resiliency of people. Whether you face a relational issue, loss of a loved one, trauma, or ongoing mental health concern, I can work with you to create positive change and move you through a healing process by identifying your existing coping skills and building on your strengths and community. I have a collaborative approach-and expect that we will work together to create change. I like to work with adults as well as children and families as I believe that variety makes me a better therapist. When working with children, I work closely with the family.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, and/or a general feeling of loss ? Do you find yourself reacting or having repetitive thoughts like "I'm not good enough" or "something is wrong with me?" Have you found talk therapy to not quite meet your needs? Sometimes, traumatic or stressful life events can cause us to feel disconnected from our environments and misinterpret what is safe/unsafe. In my therapeutic practice, I go beyond talk therapy to hold space for all human emotional experiences and responses. I seek to help you heal and increase moments of creativity, connection, and play in your day-to-day life.

Most people that I see in my practice do not have an emotional or psychological illness but are faced with professional or relationship issues that are causing personal distress. These issues when not understood and dealt with can create symptoms of anxiety, depression and a loss of satisfaction in personal, professional, and intimate relationships. They can also interfere with the full expression of a person's unique abilities and the fulfillment of his or her goals.

You are trying to shine bright like a diamond and have the things most of us desire for a good life. But there is something dimming your brilliance—it constricts you. You know, those feelings of doubt, dread, disgruntlement, desperation, or despair. Like that constant wondering about whether you are viewed as competent at work; like that disappointment you cover up with food, drink or overachieving because you haven’t met “the one;” like that hurt you carry from a past that shamed you or the depths of grief ; or like the helplessness feel when your child is struggling.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
