We're all works in progress. I believe in your ability to progress toward a freer self. The clients who begin work with me aren't free--they are constrained in a number of ways: depression, anxiety, disordered eating, low self-esteem, fear of intimacy, or impulsive behaviors. I see my work with you as helping you find the way back to your true self, where feelings, thoughts, desires, and hopes are revealed and honored, instead of tyrannized and discounted, sometimes by your own self.

I believe we can all use a little help sometimes. We all experience situations when we need some help figuring out how to move forward in life. It can feel like we've hit a wall and the ways we once faced our problems are no longer working for us. Or we've come up against something we never expected and we're not quite sure how to handle it. I think from the time we are little and through our different experiences we learn how to handle our problems and there comes a time when the way we've learned to handle things does not serve us well. Ultimately I believe this can lead to incredible growth and an opportunity to re-evaluate.

I help people recover from people-pleasing, perfectionism, and other ways of coping with that uneasy feeling of insecurity in relationships. I know how it feels – I’ve been there too. I know how it feels to feel like you’re holding up the sky and that you must earn your place in someone’s life. And I know how it feels to learn how to let go and say, “no more” and go about creating the life you want, not the one you feel you have to do.

Do you have racing thoughts? What about worry without relief? Are you overwhelmed with all of your responsibilities (i.e. taking care of kids/family while working, scheduling appointments, taking care of yourself and other household tasks)? I know all too well the suffocating and debilitating effects of stress and anxiety. Not only is it physically distressing, it causes us to feel unfulfilled in all aspects of our lives. We often wonder if we'll ever be able to feel joy, calm, and balance again - the answer is "yes" and you've come to the right place. Now, let's get to work!

You've left or stepped back from the spiritual community that was once a massive part of your life. Now what? You may be stretching yourself as tall as you can, trying to get a birds-eye view of what you experienced and where to go from here. Maybe you can confidently use words like trauma and abuse. Maybe you know you're feeling hurt but don't necessarily believe anyone harmed you. Maybe your view of what happened changes day to day. If you find yourself struggling with, "I don't even know who I am anymore," or, "I missed out on so much," or, "Why do I keep going back to old ways of thinking," you aren't alone.

One of the most beautiful things about being human is our ability to change. Yet, from observation and personal experience, I know how easy it is to feel stuck in destructive thoughts and behaviors. The good news is that you do not have to remain in a pit; it is possible to live a more hopeful, healthful, and whole life. Counseling is designed to foster this kind of growth. I believe in the importance of addressing the mind, body, and spirit and am compassion-focused, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. It would be an honor to work with you.

Do you feel stuck? Overwhelmed? Numb? Are you a Christian wrestling with faith issues? I love working with women who are empaths and high-achievers, who may be struggling with anxiety, faith issues, life-transitions, or burn-out. I also love working with women who are Christian and want to integrate their faith into sessions. My clients often report feeling more hope, confidence, and empowerment after several sessions. By the end of therapy, many of my clients express an increased overall sense of well-being, clarity, and direction. I serve virtual clients in Tennessee and Georgia.

The clients that I work with are looking for a comfortable environment where they can be understood and supported. They are also looking for tools and resources to help them produce positive change in their lives. My clients often arrive to therapy feeling "stuck". I work with my clients to identify what being unstuck would look like and then we plan how to take steps in that direction.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
