I'm a Jungian-oriented psychoanalyst. I work with people seeking to navigate the complexities and challenges of their lives, in particular relationships, issues of self esteem, depression and anxiety, and major life transitions. This work is about connecting more fully with our unconscious – that part of it which binds us to the past and that which points to the future. The goal is that, over time, we develop a more robust, self-reflective form of experience which breaks through the closed circle of outdated and self-defeating narratives, embraces agency and responsibility, and leads to a life that is full, authentic, and our own.
I've trained with the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association and the WA White Institute in New York and Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe. My orientation is Jungian, although I'm also informed by Zen Buddhist and contemporary psychoanalytic thought. This work is in essence a joint endeavor, and can be short- or longer-term, depending on what you hope to gain from it.
I view dreams and the imagination as a valuable window into otherwise opaque and fragmentary psychic processes. Working with symptoms is also important, for even though distressing, symptoms hold meaning and possibility. Our symptoms, as indicators of psychic imbalance, point to the changes we need to make – within the symptom lies the seed of its own cure.
