I think my experience treating children, families and adults for many years has benefited my clients. I enjoy helping people very much and understand my strengths and limitations. My parents were both teachers: My father was a Phys Ed teacher and coach, and my mother was a Special Education teacher. So helping others was valued in my family. I worked in a group practice for many years where I had the opportunity to hone skills and learn from colleagues, and also provided mentorship to co-workers which has helped shape the therapist that I am today.
I specialize in the the Diagnosis and Treatment of Attention-Deficit Disorder- children+adults. I work primarily with adults and teens treating Anxiety, Depression, Relationship and Marital problems. Treatment approaches are Psychodynamic, Supportive and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. I use Emotion-Focused therapy and coach Communication Skills for couples.
I look at the emotional and behavioral content underlying what my clients express to provide clarification, empathy, understanding, and support. In this way, I believe that it is crucial to help clients to be heard, "find their voice," and learn how to help themselves. Then, assist clients to utilize their strenghts to take action and make positive change.
