Hi there, I'm David! I'm a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist with more than 25 years of experience. My primary therapy modality is cognitive-behavioral. In addition to depression and anxiety, I have helped patients develop coping skills to address both PTSD and substance abuse issues. Although my primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive-behavioral, I also utilize aspects of client-centered and solution-focused therapies in my approach. Additionally, I pay particular attention to the spiritual aspects of one's personality and how it contributes to their psychological well-being.
When setting goals with clients, I must first ascertain an understanding of what the client hopes to achieve in therapy (e.g. reduce depression and/or anxiety, or learn ADHD compensatory strategies). I then explain how the cognitive techniques they will learn can help them achieve those goals. Their goals are thus developed in a collaboration with the client
I see the initial session as chiefly for the purpose of gathering historic background information from the client, but also to identify the client's reason for therapy, and to establish rapport with the client. My communication style has been described as "down-to-earth" and forthright. I offer my patients unconditional positive regard as well.
