About
In five decades of experience, I've worked with a wide variety of people, problems, and diagnoses. I specialize in alternative sexualities and lifestyles; LGBTQ+ issues; kink, fetish and leather; gender identity and expression; polyamory and nontraditional families; erotic writers, performers, sex workers; sex offenders; and other marginalized or difficult clients. I help people cope with pain, chronic physical or mental illness, physical limitations, grief and loss, professional burnout. If these categories don't fit, but you are dealing with problems in living that we all might face, I'm happy to work with you on those as well.
You are the expert on yourself and your situation. I can help you sort through confusion; better understand and express your feelings; learn relaxation skills and mindfulness; change self-defeating thinking and behaviors; separate the components of complex problems; find solutions that work for you; and feel better about yourself and your ability to cope.
The most effective aspect of therapy is the relationship that develops between you and your therapist. I am comfortable sharing my experiences, thoughts and feelings, when they might be relevant to your goals. Humor is one of the few saving graces I know. It's important to be able to laugh at ourselves ... with affection!

David E Shannon's Groups
Mature Gay & Bi Men
I previously ran an in person group for gay and bi- men ages 50+ ... I'm starting this group back up, meeting online, as we did earlier in the pandemic, and for men 40+ this time. We might occasionally choose to meet in-person, such as in a park or other agreed upon public space. Let me know if you are interested in this group.
