I consider the counseling relationship to be a partnership in which one seeks an understanding of the problems that are affecting one's life and learns of strategies that will help alleviate them. Problems are manifested in anxiety, depression, or other stress-related problems such as sleeplessness, tension and the inability to enjoy life, family or activities. ALL are attempts to cope with problems. Since this partnership is based on trust and mutual respect, it is important that the client meet a professional who can best address those problems, and has the experience to know when and how to implement changes.
I employ a number of techniques, developed from my long career as a clinical social worker. I have been in the field since 1973 and feel I have the experience to address most issues. I apply the techniques that best "fit" each individual and ALWAYS with active participation of the client.
The "real work' begins when the client leaves the office to employ the knowledge, understanding and "tools" gained during therapy. I take seriously my responsibility to convey that information and skill to those problems.
