"Why can't i stop drinking or using drugs? It is causing so many problems, yet i continue to use! I am obsessed with when i will get my next drink/drug and it seems that it has become about the most important part of my day!" If this sounds familiar, then you may be "normal." Many who drink or use drugs have crossed a line somewhere and lost the choice to quit. I work with clients who are desperately trying to quit but have had little success. I also work with the family members who have reached their own "bottom," I offer individual counseling, family meetings and/interventions. on line, by phone or in-person.
Our intervention approach is effective because we come to the addict/alcoholic from a place of love, not anger. We bring a message of support, understanding and compassion. We give him no reason to be defensive or argumentative. It is also about the family getting well, whether the substance abuser chooses to or not. It is about everyone getting well.
The idea that every addict/alcoholic must first "hit bottom" before he is ready to get help is a myth. If we believe that myth then it keeps everyone sitting on the sidelines until a crisis occurs that forces the whole family to "hit bottom."
