About
I have over 40 years experience, 20 in the Monterey Peninsula. I believe that the key to most emotional and psychological problems lies in relationships, those in the past and in the present. Learned conscious and unconscious behavior patterns can cause difficulties in life, and these behavior problems can be changed or modified. My approach is eclectic, utilizing Gestalt Therapy, psychodrama, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Therapy, and other modalities within a psychodynamic framework. I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I see people who are depressed, stressed, anxious, or who are having relationship or sexual problems.
Although I see people with everyday problems, I specialize in the psychotherapeutic treatment of schizophrenia. Most people I see do not use medication or soon reduce or eliminate medication. I use hypnosis for pain and habit reduction and for relaxation.
I have been consulting psychologist to Esalen Insititute, and to the Camaldolese Hermitage Monastery, both in Big Sur, California. I was also consulting psychologist to the National Institute of Mental Health's Psychotherapy Outcome Study, a joint project of Harvard University, McLean Hospital, and Boston University.
