I'm Daniel LeGoff, a licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist. Therapy is a dialogue and a shared experience. It starts with getting to know someone, discussing their problems, and then moving to helping them become the solution to those problems. My experience includes working with neurodiverse individuals, children, adults, and families. I am also known for having started LEGO-based therapy, which is used internationally now.
I have had a lot of training and experience with both CBT and psychodynamic therapies, but I think about both of those from a systems perspective. In order to function, people must participate in social systems, and that requires us to share values with others and feel understood and accepted.
Rather than starting with goals, I like to get a sense of someone's values and beliefs. Understanding those helps both of us decide how to prioritize and move forward toward goals. Therapy starts with sharing enough so that we know how we will work together, what is important to you, what problems you are facing, and what resources you have to build on.
