Announcement icon I am offering video therapy through Skype to all who want to be seen during this time of uncertainty; I'd be honored to help.
Effective therapy, in my view, moves forward only when you, the patient, do not feel judged, talked down to or told what to do. It is only in this atmosphere of mutual respect and regard that you will surface and examine your issues in ways that give you insight to the "why's" of the choices you've made in the past, your responses to life's events, and options you might choose in the future. There are many different methods I may use depending on what seems most promising given your goals for therapy.
Since therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, anxiety and helplessness. Effective therapy helps us find ways to face these issues, leading to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress.
After years of positive anecdotes, over the last fifteen years research now affirms the positive effects of regular mindful practices across the array of life adjustment areas. I have a long-time personal practice, and the introduction of mindful practices is an integral part of what I offer to you.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness"" is paying attention in a particular way: "On purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally." I trained through the University of Toronto Medical School with Zindal Siegel in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, an outgrowth of Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. The class in MBCT is once a week for eight weeks and one full Saturday. Research has strongly suggested that MBCT helps build our capacity for coping with a wide variety of negative emotions and life events. I have had a personal mindful practice for fifty years, and, we're all beginners! The guideword is, "As best you can."
