As a psychologist licensed in NY and NJ, I have maintained an independent psychotherapy practice for more than 35 years. Therapy with me allows each individual to feel fully recognized and accepted. The most common reasons that people come to me are for help with depression and anxiety. We often discover the self-defeating ways--avoidance, aggressiveness, addiction--you use to cope with the stresses of everyday life. We usually find that the problems are present in the most intimate relationships, and may be threatening work relationships as well. We will bring a healing connection and compassion to the obstacles to a fuller life.
A positive, non-pathologizing model of therapy called Internal Family Systems, IFS assumes that people have a natural capacity to heal themselves by bringing curiosity to the parts of them that are problems. They are protecting other parts that have been wounded. Witness and unburden these hurt parts and create space for the natural Self to emerge as leader.
If you tend to be depressed, anxious, angry or addicted, help is possible. IFS therapy will increase your awareness of how your parts tend to take over your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and behavior. As you become more Self-led, you will be like an orchestra conductor, attuned to the parts inside that had controlled your life.
