I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Washington D.C. My approach to therapy is always person-centered and focused on finding ways to cope with challenges, identifying strategies that work best for the individual, and ultimately finding a lasting solution to your challenges. I typically work with teens and young adults experiencing depression and/or anxiety. These are the conditions I am most comfortable treating; however, I have been able to work successfully with clients who have been diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder, conduct disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia.
The most common theoretical approaches I use in my work are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. I have also used dialectical behavior therapy when appropriate. I believe there is no "one size fits all" approach to therapy, but that time has to be taken to get to know your client.
I strive to create an environment that is judgment-free, trusting, and open-minded. I believe it is important to understand who a person is on the inside in order to understand their thoughts and decisions. In order to understand my clients, it is necessary to learn about their upbringing, experiences, beliefs, value systems,and fears.
