My approach to therapy is based on mindfulness and self-compassion. Mindfulness teaches us how to be present and self-compassion teaches how to be a friend and ally to ourselves no matter what. I offer a warm and safe relationship, good old fashioned listening, and skills to improve effective communication, managing and learning from emotions, self-acceptance, compassion, and connecting with and living your values. Mindfulness-based therapy is practical, evidence-based, and it works. You don't have to be stuck, overwhelmed, or feel disconnected from your life. You can make positive changes, heal, grow, and thrive.
I specialize in psychotherapy for people who identify as queer, as well as people in the health care, clergy, science, and technology professions. I value working with people who motivated by a compassionate wish to be helpful towards others and make positive contributions to our communities.
My approach to therapy is informed by over 20 years of practicing mindfulness and Buddhism, as well as behavioral therapies including ACT, CFT, and MBCT. I am also an adjunct professor of psychology at Maitripa College where I teach courses on the intersection of Buddhism and psychology. https://maitripa.org

Dan Rubin's Groups

Support Group for Physicians

I run an educational support group for physicians that focuses on problem solving communication difficulties with patients, clinical interviewing skills, self-care skills, and peer support. It is an effective way to improve clinical communication and problem skills, improve stress reduction and prevent burnout, and build community with other physicians. The group I run meets on every 4th Tuesday from 6:45pm-8:15pm. If you are a physician interested in joining this group, please contact me at 503-894-3068.
