Having nearly 40 years of experience as both an educator and therapist affords me the expertise to treat a full array of individual and family needs. I have worked both in the public and private sector in such settings as schools, adult/juvenile detention centers, outpatient/day treatment programs and residential facilities. Two specific areas of expertise are working with older adolescents (18-26) around the gamut of potential issues accompanying that developmental phase and substance abuse work with individuals, families and groups.

My approach is best described as cognitive-behavioral with particular attention to systems influences. While therapy goals differ widely among individuals, I always strive to nonjudgmentally accept individual uniqueness, to help clients tap into neglected or unrealized strengths, and to increase self/other understanding and awareness.

Events of the world and of our own creation can sidetrack lives. Therapy provides an opportunity to re-evaluate choices, to adopt new ways of thinking and living. Therapeutic work requires a collaborative partnership built on trust and cooperation. I believe that "homework" is as critical as the sessions themselves.
