During periods of anxiety and depression we frequently feel a sensation like being paralyzed, of being stuck. At other times the world around us can feel like it is changing too quickly. This can be due to transitional periods, such as a graduation, new marriage, new baby, divorce or retirement; or due to national and global transitional periods, such as politics, the economy, or climate change. Brief periods of anxiety and depression are normal reactions when they are brief, but the feeling of being stuck or being overwhelmed can become the foundation of our existence, impacting our minds, our bodies and our relationships
Talking to a professional can help us begin to move back into a life that feels like it supports and enjoys us. I believe that people have an amazing capacity to look at how their life has shifted in unexpected ways and use their strengths to bring it back to a life that feels more manageable and authentic. I hope that you will reach out.
In my free time, I love reading Tom Robbins, John Irving, Christopher Moore, and Chuck Palahniuk. My favorite podcasts are true crime and disaster. I am a practicing volunteer therapist with Psychotherapy Cooperative. And when I have time off, I take long road trips to National Parks with my family; and I haunt thrift shops around Seattle.
