My intention is to provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care that is mindful of the role of privilege/power within the therapeutic relationship.
I am now licensed in PA, NJ, DE and FL. Are you looking to gain a better understanding and acceptance of yourself? Do you need support but worry about “bothering” others with your concerns? Do you want to take back control from the problems you feel are ruling your life? These things are achievable when therapy includes the two most important aspects of successful treatment: hope and an authentic connection with an empathetic therapist who sees, accepts and validates the true you. I work with both individuals and couples, doing both standard psychotherapy and EMDR.

As a queer woman, I value affirming and culturally sensitive practices with all clients. I enjoy helping folks navigate identity development (gender, sexuality, expression, culture, transitions, etc.), relationships, oppression, and trauma. I also work with neurodivergent folks and those that struggle with emotional communication.

As a trans-affirming, queer-affirming, and nonmonogamy affirming therapist, I work from a culturally sensitive, non-judgmental stance and strive to create an environment that invites my clients’ whole and authentic selves into my office.
I started my own therapeutic journey when I realized the way I had always done things was not working for me anymore, and I needed some assistance in finding a different path. So often the coping mechanisms that kept us safe in our childhoods keep us from experiencing self-acceptance and the deep and meaningful connections we long to have as adults. Whether you are exhausted by your own people pleasing, mired in self-criticism, or struggling in your relationships, you deserve a place to gain insight into how your patterns have formed and what changes can be made to live a more fulfilling life.

I use a warm, empathetic, collaborative and culturally sensitive approach that is grounded in trauma informed, relational and psychodynamic frameworks.
Therapy can be a warm, supportive environment to begin exploring your relationship to yourself and others around you. I believe collaboration and empathy are key to creating the type of space that can facilitate healing and growth. Finding a therapist you feel comfortable enough to enter that type of space with is immensely important in the process of change. I truly enjoy getting to know each person I work with and getting a deeper sense of who they are and what they’re looking for. I’m passionate about exploring the human experience and meeting my clients where they are at on their journeys.

I work from a culturally sensitive, sex/kink positive, HAES, LGBTQ+ and polyamory competent lens.
I have sought and found so much personal growth through my own therapy and I recognize the strength in having someone there, to bear witness to both the joys and sorrows that are part of living. I want to help you navigate life’s challenges with an open mind and heart and nurture your own resilience. I strive to help individuals better understand their own complex and nuanced stories, with care and compassion. Therapy is a place where the bigger harder feelings have room to breath and define themselves for us; where we can process the past and get excited for the present and future.

My constant intention is to provide culturally sensitive and affirming care, as well as a safe and affirming space for you to explore your strengths and challenges.
My clients come to me because they want to deepen and strengthen their relationships - not just with each other, but with themselves. They want to understand the family and societal systems that shaped them into who they are today, and to heal old wounds and trauma so that they can move forward from a place of strength, healing, and connection. Many of my clients exist at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, and have struggled to find a therapist who will understand and not further stigmatize their identities, and who is committed to unlearning systems of oppression. I seek to provide a healing space for them.

As an immigrant myself, our practice strives to be culturally sensitive and accepting of clients unique backgrounds, beliefs and sexual orientation.
We are passionate about helping adults & couples struggling with anxiety, relational distress, life transitions, sexuality & gender. It is essential to create a safe and shame-free space for clients to explore their emotions, sexual issues, fears of intimacy, and vulnerabilities in order to make powerful changes. If you find yourself feeling lonely, disconnected from your loved ones, experiencing self-doubt and allowing fear to control your life then we can help. Through this process you will learn ways to self-regulate your emotions, practice self-love, create healthy boundaries in your relationships, and take control of your life.

Seeking an intentional space for healing and discovery is a meaningful choice. Through curiosity, warmth, and honesty, I work collaboratively to support clients in connecting their history, relationships, environment, to their current challenges and future goals. I believe that all of our stories are contextual, therefore I work towards identifying oppression-based barriers and explore the environmental impact through an anti-oppressive and liberation lens. My focus is to create a space where you can be empowered, express your pain, learn new ways of coping, and continue to grow into your most authentic self.

You want something different, but it’s hard to motivate and place what that really is. You are sensitive, creative, queer, thoughtful, and full of so many thoughts. You likely have a habit of overextending yourself in the hopes of finding where you feel you belong. You see patterns in your relationships that you want to examine and change, and some part of you knows that you deserve a more satisfying life. Therapy is a non-judgmental space in which you can overcome familiar patterns by being witnessed and heard, and acquire tools to improve your relationship with yourself and others.

I remember my own experience meeting my new therapist. I was anxious to talk to a new person. I did not know if I would make sense. I did not want to feel judged. I remember feeling lost and hopeless. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to change the bad feelings and I resisted to believe that there was something wrong with me. I wanted someone who could guide me to understand my world and myself. I wanted a safe space. I needed to find someone who could collaborate with me in changing and resisting. I did not want a therapist who treated me as a study object. I just wanted to feel fully human.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
