I have extensive training in trauma and EMDR that I apply in my practice with a culturally sensitive, antiracist, anti-oppressive structures and systems approach.
Life, at times, can feel heavy and you don’t need to carry the burden of your struggles or experiences alone. It can be challenging to find a space to open up about all the different areas of your life that make you who you are, past and present, and your hope for the future. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, symptoms of trauma, 1st gen family or cultural conflicts, coping with life transitions, relationship issues, identifying & setting healthy boundaries, or the myriad challenges that can arise, I am here to support you in finding your peace.

I aim to help people reduce suffering while nurturing strengths and potential in a collaborative pursuit of their life goals. Together we'll create a comfortable, culturally sensitive environment where you can work on increasing self-compassion through understanding your thoughts and behaviors. Using validation and change strategies, I can help you achieve your goals and build meaning in your life. I help clients work through emotion dysregulation that occurs from personality disorders, PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, as well as the demands of our face-paced, sometimes stressful, world.

Hello lovely people, life is short and how can we live the best of it? How can you manage work stress and social anxiety? Do you often doubt yourself, feel lonely or sad, and can't find purpose in life? I believe psychotherapy is not only about curing or resolving pain, but also increasing awareness and understanding and accepting the full range of human emotion. It’s important to feel our different emotions and learn how to express ourselves fully. The beauty of our work together is finding your strengths and having an "aha moment" during our therapeutic process.

I also provide culturally sensitive psychotherapy to individuals from Orthodox and Hasidic communities.
The prospect of disclosing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to a stranger can feel daunting. Will this therapist judge or accept me? Will I like this person? Will they get me? Can I trust them? These fears and uncertainties about initiating a relationship, are usually not isolated experiences. Feelings of ambivalence can permeate all kinds of relationships. Though, it is precisely through the therapeutic relationship-where laws of social convention are suspended and where you are encouraged to say everything that is on your mind-that you can begin to process and explore these questions and feelings.

I operate from a culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive lens.
We all go through things, and in therapy I can help you confront the difficulties you are trying to manage. I specialize in providing individual, couples, and family therapy. I have experience working with clients of all age groups across the lifespan. Some of these issues may be couples' communication issues, grief/bereavement, life transitions, and discord in personal and professional relationships to name a few. We tend to put others before ourselves and neglect our own needs in the process, including seeking therapy. Let me show you how to break these cycles in your therapy journey.

I hope to create an environment where people feel seen, heard, and understood in a culturally sensitive way.
People often come to therapy at challenging and difficult points in their lives. These moments often impact the relationship individuals have with themselves and others. These moments can also cause a lot of pain and confusion. Unresolved issues from previous experiences can get in the way of people living their lives to the fullest. During our work together, I hope to be a guide towards your journey of healing and wellness.

As a first-generation, Caribbean-American, and Black woman I understand the importance of offering individualized and culturally-sensitive therapy. Our stories are created by a complex mixture of cultural, economic, racial, ethnic, and sexual relationships with ourselves and the world. Our work in therapy may include exploring these relationships and acknowledging the difficulties of balancing external conditions with personal needs. We will also take a look at the patterns that have developed based on past experiences, and how these experiences are informing the present.

With emphasis on awareness and insight, I encourage individuals and couples to seek solutions that resonate with their individual and relational needs. The struggle to overcome adverse experiences, can be a product of sociocultural system, family context, early attachment and relationships which reflect a stigmatized idea of self.

Living in New York City can often feel like a balancing act with no end in sight. We aspire to have the best career, partner, family, and friends, all while silencing the part of us that questions our choices and whether we really measure up. As obligations continue to grow, it can be hard to find the energy and motivation to do the things we have to do without sacrificing the things we want to do. That’s where I come in. I can help you to define and break through the barriers that block you from being yourself. I strive to provide a culturally sensitive environment where you can explore their relationships, careers, and identity.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
