Are you struggling with challenges that seem insurmountable? Are they causing you to feel overwhelmed, hopeless and isolated? I seek to help you feel empowered and work towards healing by providing you with the tools and skills to enhance and improve your life. I believe the therapeutic process is collaborative and should provide an environment for you to explore and identify patterns of behavior, gain clarity and seek resolution. It is important for me to create a safe and non-judgmental environment for you to be able to share your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

If you find yourself with challenges that you desire to navigate successfully through, then you are in the right place! I believe, "without a struggle there can be no progress" as stated by the late Fredrick Douglass. My ideal client is someone who is looking to gain better inward insight and improve the skills he/she already has while discovering new ones.

So often, it can be difficult to open up to a stranger. For many of us, placing our struggles in the hands of others can be an emotionally and sometimes physically demanding task. A safe space is needed, one without judgment or bias; a place to feel cared for, listened to, and supported. This is the space Croy strives to create.

It can be difficult to open up about your personal struggles to a stranger. Many racial/ethnically diverse clients find it to be a distinct challenge: “we can’t find a therapist who understands our cultural/religious beliefs & it is too emotionally exhausting to explain it.” In this journey of self-exploration and coping with life’s struggles, the last thing you need is a counselor that you need to educate, feel fearful to talk to about culturally sensitive issues due to judgment or stereotypes, or to feel retaliation from someone who is supposed to provide you a safe space. Natasha aims to create this space for everyone she sees.

As a licensed social worker (LSW), my primary goal is to form a therapeutic alliance with all clients through a culturally sensitive lens so they can build strength and resilience.
You may find yourself ruminating on the past, fixating on the future, succumbing to anxiety and depression, struggling to fortify healthy relationships. You may find yourself internalizing complex traumatic experiences or still coming to terms with who you are and how you see yourself in this world. Regardless of the issue at hand, I’m here to help.

The healing journey is always the most challenging, particularly when it involves recovering from trauma. We question whether we can overcome the barriers surrounding us and heal from our trauma. There will always be uncertainty about how we'll navigate this journey. However, the concerns about whether we find someone that understands our culture is who we truly are. At whisper. Hope. & Wellness we take pride in our unwavering commitment to cultural sensitivity, ensuring that each individual's experience is not only acknowledged but understood.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
