Courage. That is what I hear when I am contacted for consultation. We collaborate in a supportive environment to face challenges like being single (again), grief, strengthening a marriage, #MeToo, anxiety, codependency, impostor syndrome or burnout. Together, we understand and transform barriers that block you from what you want in life. I have extensive training in the treatment of trauma/neglect. I have experience working with people from a variety of ethnicities, religious/spiritual backgrounds and sexual orientations. We will mindfully, focus on the present and briefly visit the past when it is influencing the present.

Finally deciding to seek out therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming and even increase uncomfortable feelings. Finding the "right fit" with a therapist means taking emotional risks to get the support you deserve. For many years I have worked to help individuals regain or perhaps even discover for the first time, a sense of inner peace. My practice incorporates holistic, somatic & integrative approaches to treat a wide range of mental health challenges. I believe "theory" is invaluable, however, experience and research shows that successful therapy is closely connected to the relationship that develops between therapist and client.

Hello and welcome! I know how difficult it can be to navigate life’s challenges. I also know it may be even more difficult to seek help, but I’m so happy you’re here. Through our time together, we’ll explore where you are now and the goals you have for yourself, create a plan that will help you to move forward, and then work through it all together. I believe in creating an environment where individuals are empowered to explore their thoughts and feelings openly, with the goal of developing practical skills for managing challenges and building resilience.

Whether you're a veteran or a newcomer, starting therapy can be one of the most taxing and anxiety provoking things we can imagine. Many of us live day by day worried about what may happen or what has happened, and eventually it starts to consume how we think and behave. We start to lie to ourselves and others about what is happening, and we start to feel trapped and hopeless. Everyday seems to be a battle and we crave a release.

I am happy to see you via video sessions (only) during this time. My name is Hebah (pronounced Hib-a), and I am excited you found my profile. Therapy is about discussing your problems, but that’s only the beginning. When you develop a relationship with an empathic, attuned therapist, you will find your inherent strength, heal old emotional wounds, discover new ways to solve problems and change how you live your life. I am a bilingual (English/Arabic) therapist with over ten years of psychotherapy experience. I use a straightforward, gentle, respectful, non-blaming, culturally sensitive approach to counseling.

I help adult gay men live without fear, pain, confusion, and self-destructive behaviors. Their symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, shame, and self-loathing get in the way of the life they want to live. They worry I will judge them for how they are living their lives. However, they want to overcome their inner limitations, use of drugs, porn, "dating" apps, overachieving, and live a life with deeper connections, real freedom, and dignity.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
