No one should suffer from unnecessary psychological distress. I specialize in "mindfulness" and cognitive-behavior therapy for children, adolescents and adults. I have been practicing for more than twenty years and have helped many people achieve life goals that had previously seemed out of their reach. I am fortunate that I love what I do. This is evident in my dedication to my clients. Their legacies are my rewards. My therapeutic approach enables me to positively impact individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, obsessions/ compulsions, phobias, post traumatic stress, dysregulated moods and delusional thinking.

I became a psychotherapist to help support others through life's challenges. From relationships to family to career, life can be a roller coaster of events. I believe that creating some space in your life, even just one hour a week, can be very beneficial to your health and overall well being. As the saying goes when flying on an airplane, "...make sure to put the oxygen mask on yourself first before attempting to help others around you." This is crucial. If you are not well, how can you help take care of those around you?

My clinical focus is PTSD, developmental trauma and addictive disorders. I combine traditional "talk" therapy with QEEG-informed Neurofeedback and EMDR, where appropriate. This offers you the best chance of healing past emotional wounds, alleviating symptoms, and living more fully in the present. The subtle, transformative power of Neurofeedback helps many clients resolve the traumatic stress, fear and anxiety that often underly behavioral and addictive disorders. EMDR is another powerful tool that can help resolve emotional trauma, improve functioning, and help you become more present-focused.

No matter what stage of life, we are all subject to the stress of our modern world, and it is how we cope with distress that decides our social and emotional well being. I believe that if you can alter your thinking and preconceptions you can alter your self-experience. As a Clinical Psychologist for over 30 years, my role is to provide a safe environment to navigate clients in a creative self-discovery process. Self-expression with validation allows for the growth of confidence and reduction of self-defeating behaviors. As a team we can create coping skills that are the key to success.

I have over 15 years of experience working with adults and teens who living with issues such as depression, anxiety, lack of self- confidence, grief, trauma and PTSD and relationship issues. While I believe that talk therapy that leads to greater self-understanding is very helpful, it's best combined with practical tools and suggestions that help people minimize their suffering when they are out of the therapy room and in their daily lives. My first question usually is if your life was working well, what would it look like? Then, I do my best to help you get there.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
