I specialize in treating individuals & couples with depression , anxiety, sexual health & relationship issues, trauma, and other life challenges. Although it can be difficult to take the leap into mental health treatment, I believe doing so can contribute immeasurably to anyone’s well-being. The current stress and uncertainty of day to day life make this especially true. I strongly believe all individuals are capable of personal growth, overcoming struggles, and bettering their lives.

I believe that each of us already possesses the ability to live a happy and fulfilling life. With greater self-understanding, we can discover and break through barriers that hold us back, find new perspectives, and achieve new goals. I work with people who are experiencing specific challenges--such as trauma or relationship issues--as well as those who suffer from anxiety, depression , feel "stuck in a rut" or are simply interested in exploring new ways to find more fulfillment in their lives. Whatever your goal, we can work together to achieve balance and lasting change.

**Telehealth only at this time** My practice focuses on assisting teens and emerging adults in navigating their complex world and the issues that are common for them including anxiety, depression , body image issues, and self-harm. I often hear "I feel like I don't know what I'm doing" and therapy can be a place where this feeling is both normalized (who does know what they're doing?!) and to gain more perspective on how to cope with challenges while finding their place in this world.

Depression , anxiety, mood disorders, substance misuse, relationship issues don't develop from a single experience where just one specialty will effectively address it for positive change.
I'm a retired Navy Drug/Alcohol Counselor with 24 years' experience in varied clinical settings. Now I have my own private practice in a quiet, peaceful setting. This is not fast food nor a high-volume dealership. I offer counseling/psychotherapy in a friendly, supportive, non-hurried, non-judgmental environment. I'm an optimist. I listen, assist, guide, teach and help others to the best of my abilities. Depression , anxiety, substance misuse, Diabetes and other health issues plus general life issues do not define a person. Change is possible. My hope is to help each client in my practice attain their personal goals.

(At this time I am taking new clients via telehealth or by phone. ) Each one of us has our own personal story, interwoven with the joys and sadness of life. Every client I work with I believe walks through my door so that together we can work on navigating issues, gaining skills and understanding of what they wish to change in their lives. Sometimes it is a subtle change one is looking for, or at other times it is a life changing event that propels us to seek help. Whatever the reason I am here to help people find the change they seek.

Offering both individual and family therapy, I’ve spent 25 years in the field passionately guiding adults, teens, and children (as young as 5) along their journey to wellness. I particularly love incorporating creative modalities including the use of sand trays, puppet play, games, and other crafts. These are all powerful tools to help teach kids essential skills in concrete ways. When working with youth, parents most often become a critical part of treatment planning, actively participating in skills building activities with the child in treatment. My work with adults often involves parent support and/or individual counseling.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
