I have extensive experience treating individuals suffering from anxiety-related issues, depression, insomnia, trauma and adjustment related problems, ADHD, substance abuse, and parent -child conflict.
I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist that draws from current research to tailor treatments for each client. Whether it may be your first time to a psychologist or if you may want to try a different approach, both decisions are the product of a considerable amount of bravery. I believe that a non-judgemental, collaborative, and trusting relationship is the foundation for change to occur.

Dr. Schwartz believes deeply that when working with people who have survived traumatic experiences, the most important question to ask in gaining an empathic understanding of how trauma has impacted them, is not “what is wrong with the person”, but “What has happened to the person“. He has extensive experience in play therapy and individual therapy with kids and adolescents and parent -child work. His work with families is best described as consultative, believing that families function best when they see themselves as the experts, who at times need additional guidance, direction, and support in their journey to healing.

I work predominately with issues as marital conflict, parenting , depression, anger management, ADHD, substance abuse, adolescent behavior problems and supporting dads of divorce.
As a marriage and family therapist, I am uniquely trained to identify, track and break patterns between couples & families in conflict. I work toward helping individuals, couples and families take an active role in creating the kind of change they desire. Marriages are not meant to merely SURVIVE, but rather to THRIVE. In couples counseling I help parties develop greater insight into their relationship and maintain a mindfulness toward its growth. Through focusing on action steps, I actively challenge individuals and couples to take accountability for their own thoughts and behavior as opposed to assessing their partner's.

"You are doing the very best you can!" We enter adulthood with a lifetime of experiences-both positive and negative. Is today feeling like a replay of past trauma, relationships struggling, parenting making you feel like a failure, while the voice in your head says, "I am not enough?" My practice is based on the beliefs, “it is never too late” and “we each have infinite worth.” The quality of our early relationship with our caregivers, repeats without our awareness. Our past need not define our present. You are worthy of finding comfort within a secure, therapeutic relationship. Together we can explore and discover healing.

What I feel most passionate about is helping anxious, yet motivated individuals gain more clarity about their goals, have the tools, recognize their strengths and feel more confident and make more space for themselves in their relationships, at work and with parenting /leading their families.
Hey there, Are you feeling anxious, burnt out, in a Fog? Most people you know would think you have your life together, you have a good marriage/relationship, a great job, happy children. Deep down, you know something is missing. You're tired, tired of wearing a mask. Maybe you have a tendency to make yourself small to make others feel comfortable. No one seems to question how you really are. You may feel lost in many ways as an individual, feeling alone, anxious, resentful and misunderstood. In therapy together, I can help you clear the confusion, get unstuck and feel motivated to take action for something more.

I also enjoy supporting adult clients, especially during the perinatal period (family planning through the first 2 years of parenting ).
Ideally, childhood is a time of wonder, play and learning in the context of safe relationships. Sometimes, despite the best intentions of caregivers, children experience trauma or other situations that challenge their sense of safety. Other times, a child’s behaviors make it clear that they are struggling, but it’s not clear why. Developing resilience and a healthy attachment style are profoundly impactful throughout life. My practice focuses on supporting the emotional & mental health needs of children under age 10, as well as adults seeking to resolve their own childhood traumas, manage family stress or bond with their baby/child.

Parent coaching and consultation fits well with telehealth.
10/10/22: Telehealth clients only. Morning availability. I am a board-certified art therapist and licensed professional counselor with 14 years of clinical experience. I specialize in early childhood mental health but work with all ages. I trust in the wisdom of clients' abilities to explore their own themes, symbols, and stories. Because we all develop our senses of self and safety within the context of early relationships, family/relationship-based work is essential. My art/play therapy practice is trauma and Polyvagal Theory-informed. My approach is flexible, solution-focused, and non-judgmental.

Being young, a parent , or a caregiver can mean many different stressors.
Connecting with the right therapist can help us lighten negative feelings from week to week. Often these feelings can leave us feeling burdened and reaching out to loved ones can seem impossible. Trusting a therapist enough to give them a call or an email can seem so risky.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
