Most clients come to my practice because they are feeling anxious or sad about some life problem. I work from a positive psychology, strength-based perspective and primarily practice cognitive-behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, and narrative therapy. I see clients with problems such as generalized anxiety, OCD , panic, PTSD and social anxiety. People often come to therapy because their symptoms increased after experiencing a stressor, such as relationship, career or family problems. In addition to individual therapy I also offer meditation groups. Visit drbethgiurelli.com for more information.

I offer effective treatment for OCD for adults in Connecticut. Treating OCD is 90% of what I do, and I am trained in multiple treatment approaches. I have a menu of evidence-informed treatment approaches to bring you relief from intrusive thoughts, obsessions and compulsions. That's right, it is no longer /just/ exposures! Exposure Response Prevention, what used to be called the "gold standard" of OCD treatment, is often not successful in treating OCD .

I specialize in the assessment and treatment of mental health issues. I trained with some of the top Cognitive Behavioral Therapists in the world. My expertise is in anxiety disorders which includes, worry, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic, social anxiety and eating disorders for all ages Making a correct diagnosis is a strength I developed from working on inpatient psychiatric units, with both adolescents and adults. As a cognitive behavioral therapist, and Supervisor certified by the Albert Ellis Institute, My style is genuine, supportive, empathic and directive. Unless someone has experienced trauma, there is often little need to delve into one's past, as current thinking and behaviors maintain the dysfunction in life.

Above all, therapy is a relationship. I work collaboratively with my clients to develop a safe, trusting, and attuned relationship that we can use to explore problematic patterns of relating, work through emotional tensions and conflicts, and better understand themselves. Through the therapeutic relationship, we can begin to unravel those patterns that keep people wondering, "why does this keep happening?", fully experience emotions, develop a greater sense of self-awareness and vitality, and understand how the past impacts and influences the present. Please see my website for more information.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions). It affects children, kids, teens and adults. Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only provides temporary relief. Not performing the obsessive rituals can cause great anxiety. A person's level of OCD can be anywhere from mild to severe, but if severe and left untreated, it can destroy a person's capacity to function at work, at school or even to lead a comfortable existence in the home.
