I work with individuals who have experienced different kinds of loss, such as the death of loved one or the end of a relationship .
We all experience grief, and we all cope with it in different ways. There is no "right" way to cope, and we could all use some guidance in our complex lives. You may have lost a loved one, or be facing other unexpected changes in your life. COVID-19 has also impacted us in so many ways. You may be experiencing a range of different emotions, such as anxiety, sadness, or anger. Some of these emotions may be signs of grief. My expertise lies in supporting those faced with grief and loss in a safe, nurturing environment. This support looks different for each of you and evolves over time.

I believe in an open dialogue, and a mutual relationship that builds the foundation of trust, and connection.
The people that I work with often do not understand why they are feeling depressed, anxious, angry, disappointed and so forth, let alone where it stems from or how to change it. I work using multiple therapy models tailored to an individual's needs and personality. We will work collaboratively to uncover the root of distress and develop the tools needed to overcome the challenges that are problematic.

Welcome! I specialize in helping individuals with anxiety-related problems (including panic, specific fears and general anxiety), those who've suffered traumatic losses or are experiencing life transitions (such as divorce, job loss, military discharge, illness or retirement). I bring 20 years of experience and skills to my work but also know it's the relationship with each client - the caring, trust and collaboration - that is key to recovery and personal growth. Many people prefer to contact me at first by email and we may email several times before you decide to schedule an appointment. That's fine.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
