Stress, anxiety, depression, losses, relationship difficulties all interfere with a satisfying, meaningful life.
Give yourself credit! The fact that you're seeking a therapist is a sign of inner strength and courage to face, rather than avoid a difficult situation. The heart of successful therapy involves a caring and close relationship with healthy boundaries where anything can be discussed without fear of judgement. Whether you are accustomed to handling your challenges on your own or prefer to bounce things off trusted friends, there are times when we all need a safe place to talk and be heard. I will provide that place for you.

I believe that a good therapeutic "fit," and the therapeutic relationship we build, are the most important elements of successful therapy.
I am passionate about creating a safe, empathetic, non-judgmental space for adults, including older adults, who need help with navigating life transitions, struggling with loss and grief, grappling with caregiver burdens, living with chronic illness, or experiencing depression and/or anxiety. Our work together will include recognizing patterns which may present challenges in day-to-day life and interpersonal relationships, examining unhelpful thinking styles, and developing coping tools and other skills to help you manage difficult and stressful emotions and experiences.

Welcome! I specialize in helping individuals with anxiety-related problems (including panic, specific fears and general anxiety), those who've suffered traumatic losses or are experiencing life transitions (such as divorce, job loss, military discharge, illness or retirement). I bring 20 years of experience and skills to my work but also know it's the relationship with each client - the caring, trust and collaboration - that is key to recovery and personal growth. Many people prefer to contact me at first by email and we may email several times before you decide to schedule an appointment. That's fine.

As a therapist, I enjoy the opportunity to offer a safe space for support towards healing. I work with young adults and adults on issues such as eating disorders, body image, self-esteem, anxiety, perfectionism, stress management and life transitions (starting or ending college, moving, job/career changes, relationship changes etc.) Due to my own experiences as both a performing artist and former college athlete & coach, I especially enjoy working with other artists or athletes and understand the unique challenges that may bring.

At one point or another, we as humans are sure to encounter some sort of struggle within our lifetime and I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help. The benefits of reaching out for additional support can far outweigh the risk you take from figuring it out, all on your own. Together, we can create a safe, nonjudgmental, and healthy working relationship that will allow for you to gain the courage to actively engage in the therapeutic process. From there, you will begin to identify unhelpful thought patterns and related behaviors, while learning effective coping skills to be used outside of our time spent together.

I believe in an open dialogue, and a mutual relationship that builds the foundation of trust, and connection.
The people that I work with often do not understand why they are feeling depressed, anxious, angry, disappointed and so forth, let alone where it stems from or how to change it. I work using multiple therapy models tailored to an individual's needs and personality. We will work collaboratively to uncover the root of distress and develop the tools needed to overcome the challenges that are problematic.

I have always gained great satisfaction from helping people feel happier and in learning more effective ways to achieve more fulfilling lives. Those clients who are eager and open to learning more about themselves in order to achieve these goals benefit most from my approach as a therapist. I often focus, therefore, on insight, meaning, and symbols (including dream interpretation)in order to help clients establish a more positive and accepting perspective of themselves and others. In therapy, I work with obstacles against achieving these goals that include anxiety, depression, addictions, anger, and interpersonal and relationship issues.

As a marriage and family therapist, I am uniquely trained to identify, track and break patterns between couples & families in conflict. I work toward helping individuals, couples and families take an active role in creating the kind of change they desire. Marriages are not meant to merely SURVIVE, but rather to THRIVE. In couples counseling I help parties develop greater insight into their relationship and maintain a mindfulness toward its growth. Through focusing on action steps, I actively challenge individuals and couples to take accountability for their own thoughts and behavior as opposed to assessing their partner 's.

My work with individual adults and couples is a combination of Traditional Psychology and evidence- based Positive Psychology. The traditional psychotherapy focuses on problem solution and symptom reduction, which, of course, are important first steps toward managing the difficult periods of our lives. However, most of us want more from life than surviving the rough parts that we encounter. What we long for is a way to thrive in our everyday lives.. Evidence-based Positive Psychology focuses on our strengths and the development of habits that can create a lasting sense of happiness, wellbeing and meaning in our lives.

My goal for you is that you take the skills and therapeutic relationship out of the office and into your world.
Are you struggling to make changes, hard on yourself, feeling uninspired, lack purpose or direction, experiencing low energy, or have rigid thinking? We will develop your personal goals and continuously work collaboratively through exploring your personal experience. The skills taught will strengthen the aspects in your life that cause stress because they have been ignored. We will honor all of your experiences and feelings, and encourage gratitude for this life we have been given. I believe therapy is a journey, and we create a safe place to explore beliefs, feelings, and experiences.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
