So you’re taking steps to improve your mental health. Good for you! Therapy is not “one size fits all”. I meet my clients where they are at and help them reach their goals in a way that is natural to them. I provide a safe judgement-free (virtual) space where you can get the support you need to improve your life. While my approach to counseling is unique to each client’s needs, I generally incorporate many positive psychology principles. Rather than focusing solely on areas of weakness and unhappiness, I help clients maximize their strengths and recognize areas of joy in their lives.

In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I conduct neuropsychological evaluations to assess for
ADHD
in adults.
I work with adolescents and adults who want to address anxiety disorders, past traumatic experiences, and interpersonal/attachment concerns. For those with anxiety disorders, I use evidence-based approaches, like CBT and ERP. I help clients learn new ways to think, utilize coping skills that emphasize regulating the nervous system, and safely expose clients to anxiety-provoking things in order to overcome fears. For those who have experienced trauma and interpersonal challenges, I use trauma-focused CBT and psychodynamic therapy with an attachment lens. I help my clients process their experiences and reclaim their narratives.

I work predominately with issues as marital conflict, parenting, depression, anger management,
ADHD
, substance abuse, adolescent behavior problems and supporting dads of divorce.
As a marriage and family therapist, I am uniquely trained to identify, track and break patterns between couples & families in conflict. I work toward helping individuals, couples and families take an active role in creating the kind of change they desire. Marriages are not meant to merely SURVIVE, but rather to THRIVE. In couples counseling I help parties develop greater insight into their relationship and maintain a mindfulness toward its growth. Through focusing on action steps, I actively challenge individuals and couples to take accountability for their own thoughts and behavior as opposed to assessing their partner's.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
