For me, being a therapist is a privilege. I like to work with anyone eager to understand what is happening to them in their life. Together, we'll try to understand the factors that are creating the trouble - including some of the unconscious ones - and then we'll put them in perspective, cut them down to size, and talk about what can be done. I create a safe, intelligent, and empathic environment for counseling where we can talk about anything without judgment. My office is a safe place to be yourself. So many of our problems have their root in isolation and anxiety, and that is something we can address together.

Talking to a counselor who has experience with patients who suffer from loss, depression, anxiety, or trauma issues might be just what you need.
Life is like a roller coaster with its uphills and downhills. Usually we roll with the flow and find that some days are better than others. Or maybe everything is fine and then life throws us a curveball and we don't know which way to turn. As women in today's world, we find ourselves in life transitions frequently. Most of the time we can work through it on our own but every now and then we get stuck and need a little help to figure out how to move forward.

For nearly 25 years I have helped people overcome mental illness, ADHD, addictions, grief and other challenges.
I help struggling individuals, distant couples, and hurting families. I provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for people to explore their pain and challenges without fear of judgment. Building a strong relationship where my clients know they are cared for and are free to laugh or cry (we do a lot of both) is extremely important to me. As a social worker at heart, I try to help those I work with recognize the strengths they have as well as to recognize where one's lifestyle may be out of balance with one's personal values.

I have extensive training in grief and loss.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I approach my time with clients from both an individual and relational point of view. I believe it is vital to explore self-awareness and interpersonal relationships in order to understand what may be interfering with living a more fulfilling life. I understand that not everyone responds to the same experiences in the same way and that therapy needs to be designed to fit each individual clients needs based on their own histories and experiences. I will collaborate with you to make therapy a place that fits your needs.

I have worked with adolescents, adults, families and I have seen firsthand how trauma, loss, and instability can fracture one’s sense of self—but I have also witnessed the resilience that lies within.
In taking a nonjudgmental, strength-based approach, I aim to create a safe environment that helps clients through depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and relationship stressors. I utilize evidence-based approaches like CBT, existential, & client-centered therapy to encourage clients to build on their strengths and improve their overall well-being.

I've helped many people cope with excessive life stress, resolve problems in relationships, recover from difficult divorces, manage traumatic bereavement and loss, cope with major life transitions, and develop effective strategies to manage changes in their lives.
I am committed to helping couples improve their relationships. Couples are often caught up in recurrent unresolvable conflicts that color the rest of their lives. Learning how to recognize and move past them is an important part of couples work. I strive to enhance the positive aspects of the relationship.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
