Women's Issues Therapists in Vernon Rockville, CT
Hi, I'm Kara thanks for taking the time to check out my profile. As a therapist who has been in the field for almost a decade and a person who has also gone to therapy themselves, I know how scary it can be to take that first step. At the same time think of all you could gain better relationships, more life satisfaction, healthy boundaries, good communication skills, resiliency etc.
I currently work with all ages and am inclusive, trauma informed, and collaborative. I feel that as the client you are the expert of yourself and focus on teaching you to be your own therapist.

I am passionate about helping individuals, couples and families heal their lives and relationships. My approach is compassionate, supportive and hopeful. It is my belief that you are not "flawed" or lacking, but rather are constrained by burdens and beliefs that are the result of painful experiences. Together we remove those constraints so that you can experience freedom, wholeness and joy. When working with couples, my goal is to help remove constraints to intimacy and to help you and your partner create a relationship that is honest and fulfilling. Often personal healing must occur in order for this to happen.

Motherhood can break you open in ways no one prepares you for. Even when your children are healthy, the daily exhaustion, overstimulation, mental overload, and pressure to hold everything together can leave you feeling drained and disconnected from yourself. For some mothers, the journey began with fear, complicated pregnancy, early labor, an unexpected NICU stay, or birth trauma that still shows up in flashbacks, anxiety, or guilt. For others, motherhood carries the silent weight of grief, the heartbreak of loss, or moments you survived but never truly healed from.

Hi, I’m Shawniel Chamanlal, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I work with adults who have spent much of their lives being the strong ones, responsible, capable, and often carrying more than their share. You may be someone others rely on, who shows up and gets things done, yet rarely has the space to slow down, rest, or be fully supported. Over time, this way of living can take a toll. Stress, self-doubt, emotional exhaustion, difficulty setting boundaries, or a lingering sense of not feeling “enough” often stem from earlier experiences in which you learned to adapt, push through, or put others before yourself.

I view mental health as an essential factor to build a better life that's manageable and open to joy. I look at individuals as part of a network of the internal world, the environment, family and community. Self empowerment and success is very important to me.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
