I’ve spent the past 10 years working with teens and families through all kinds of life’s ups and downs — anxiety, family stress, identity questions, you name it. What I’ve learned is that therapy works best when it’s real, honest, and feels like a good fit. I’m kind, funny, and a little bit curious by nature — which means I’ll ask questions, but I’ll also listen and laugh with you when you need it. Building trust takes time, and that’s something I value deeply. It doesn’t matter what degrees I have hanging on the wall if you don’t feel like you can talk to me. So, let’s give it a shot and see if the shoe fits.

“What if I feel this way forever”, said my 14 year old patient who presented to the emergency room with suicidal ideation. We sat there for a while, in silence. “What IF you feel this way forever”, I asked her. We both became quiet again. I held her hand. I always wanted to become a therapist— someone who fixed problems & people’s lives. I quickly learned that therapy is not about fixing. It is about walking along aside one another through out the highs and lows of life, while creating new life habits and coping skills.

Life doesn’t always give us time to catch our breath. Maybe you’re managing stress, anxiety, or grief. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you: emotionally exhausted, disconnected, or unsure of where to go next. Life can feel especially overwhelming when you’re navigating changes, holding onto old pain, or questioning your place in the world. Maybe your self-esteem has taken a hit, or you’ve spent years putting others first and no longer know how to check in with yourself. Whatever brought you here, therapy is a space to slow down, reflect, and come back to yourself. You can show up exactly as you are.

If you’ve found your way here, you might have learned how to intellectualize your experiences until it's just data, or mastered the art of "checking out" during conflict. Dissociation, logic, and distancing are the parts of you that kept you safe when connections felt unsafe. While I understand these parts as incredible survival strategies, they also limit you when trying to build a life of shared connection and pleasure. Many couples and individuals come to me feeling stuck in these painful cycles. Together, we can shift these loops to create lasting compassion, deeper intimacy, and real change.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
