I specialize in supporting individuals facing trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions.
I approach my practice from a systems-based perspective, considering how the various aspects of your life interconnect to shape who you are. Imagine it like baking a cake: each ingredient (or system) combines to create the whole cake (or person). By understanding these components, we can work together to foster healing and growth.

I use a proactive, strengths-based approach to help others manage their anxiety, depression, trauma, family and interpersonal relationships.
Welcome! If you are here, chances are that you are looking for help. That's okay! Everyone needs help sometimes. In my experience, it's better to ask for it and get it than to struggle and continue to beat yourself up over things. Even for people who don't believe they need counseling/therapy, there are many things they could work on to improve themselves. Whether it's relationships, school or career performance, problem solving or just wanting to become a better person, I believe I can help. Don't you deserve a better, happier life?

I have had the honor of working with many people over the years struggling with various disorders such as anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive, oppositional-defiant, attention-deficit /hyperactivity as well as autism, anger issues, adjustment difficulties with new (or frustrating) situations, and countless couples for marriage / relationship counseling.
Life is hard and even downright frustrating at times. Everybody faces challenges in life but you don't have to go through them alone. It is OK to get some help while going through life. The first step to overcoming, breaking through, recovering and succeeding starts with the first phone call to come see me. Know your worth! Be brave enough to break the stigma we face surrounding counseling and therapy. I work hard to create a very safe space - no judging, no shaming - where you can be free to share what it is you might be struggling to conquer. Together we can get through it!

I've been involved in the behavioral health field over 30 years working with children and adults. In that time, I have become acquainted with numerous types of treatment. I've seen many positive responses to these techniques but have also heard clients state how the reality of their lives did not always fit the mold of some approaches. This "fitting a square peg into a round hole" has been an issue for some clients in previous treatment. Though issues people experience can be common to others, they are also specific to the individual. This makes more generalized treatments difficult.

I consider it a great honor to partner with clients to find ways to live with more authenticity and presence. With a Ph.D, in Clinical and School Psychology, and more than 25 years of experience, I have a deep appreciation for the journeys we take in life-where we have been, where we are now, and where we want to go. Although I see adults of all ages, I specialize in assisting college age/young adults to navigate the many challenges these years of identity development can bring.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
