We all struggle from time to time with areas of our lives that can seem overwhelming or out of control. A collaborative relationship between a caring therapist and client can ease and minimize the stresses that arise from these times. I work with clients to discover and understand the inner parts of ourselves that need attention and healing during these times.Helping clients connect with their own sense of self and build on that strength is both rewarding and enlightening as we travel the journey of healing and rebuilding together. My client centered therapy is geared towards the respect, comfort and safety of the individual.

Art Therapy, a beneficial and non-threatening alternative to traditional talk therapy. We all have the ability and creativity to connect to images generated by ourselves or by others. Art making has a primal component and brings us great insight into our inner experience. It's my passion and priority to create opportunities for others to recognize and develop their authentic self in a safe and supportive environment. My areas of focus include working with individuals, couples and families, trauma, relational, and substance dependency challenges. I also provided supervision hours for emerging art therapists.

I utilize play and art therapy with children, so they feel safe to access and express their feelings.
I specialize in two areas. First, I work with children who struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, school, peer relationships or challenges using their voice to stand up for themselves. My second area of expertise is supporting adults who suffered emotional neglect, emotional abuse or narcissistic parenting when they were growing up and now struggle with anxiety, trust issues, self-isolation, feelings of guilt or shame, people pleasing tendencies, difficulty speaking up or challenges setting healthy boundaries with others.

Art therapy may differ from what we associate with traditional arts based practices since it can be utilized as a tool to further explore unconscious thoughts and emotions, it isn't necessary to have a background in art making, just the desire to explore your psyche.
I am a heart-centered art therapist and counselor with a strong focus on encouraging exploration, self-discovery and empowerment through visual and symbolic expression. I offer a range of treatment modalities such as creative arts therapy, somatic processing and talk therapy with focus on self-compassion, mindfulness, spirituality, mind-body connection and creativity.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
