I focus on helping you become more fully who you are or want to be. Over our lifetime we learn behaviors and beliefs that were rewarded or were necessary for acceptance at home, work, school or anyplace we interacted with others. We may carry these (mostly unconscious) beliefs and behaviors with us even though they may be unhelpful and/or destructive. They may show up in intimate relationships, friendships, work or other places that impact our quality of life. Working together we identify counterproductive beliefs and behaviors and replace them with beliefs and behaviors that support the adult you want to be.

Not accepting new clients
Regrettably, at this time, I am NOT accepting new clients. I work with adults experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulty due to their history, relationships and long held assumptions, beliefs and behaviors. Perhaps. at times. these patterns of thinking, feeling and doing have led to the same outcomes. I work with you to help you clarify, manage and treat problems of mood, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, traumatic experiences, substance use and self-defeating behavior and, in turn, help you begin to discover new meaning, peace and contentment in life, work, relationships and with yourself.

Your prayer has been answered! Hi, I am Eric Joseph, welcome to Total Therapy Today LLC. I have 21 years of pastoral and 12 years of clinical experience working with many individuals struggling with various life issues. The work of ministry for pastors and lay leaders can add more stress. The truth is that being a born again Christian do not make us immune to those struggles which are usually manifested as anxiety, depression and other mental and emotional difficulties. This makes professional Christian counseling not just a therapeutic process but a ministry to the body of Christ—so we will begin and end every session with prayer.

Let's face it...at times we all could benefit from a little therapy. However finding the right person to confide in can be just as a daunting of a task as admitting to ourselves that we could use some help. The hustle and bustle of life's demands takes its toll on us all in many different ways but that doesn't mean we have to continue letting it wear us down. Sometimes our thoughts inhibit our ability to enjoy life and live in the present. How we react to those thoughts is so important, yet for many of us, we rely on strategies that are ineffective at best and harmful at worst. Often, we get stuck in a cyclical pattern of thinking, and we can feel our anxiety growing. There is a way out of this.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
