Over 20 years of clinical experience working with adolescents, teenagers, and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and addiction in various treatment settings. Diversity and multicultural issues are embedded in everything we do and contribute to presenting problems. I am conscious of varying decision-making preferences, the role of family dynamics, stages of life, socioeconomic status, and issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. As well as the stigma associated with seeking mental health services.

My therapeutic approach is both strengths-based and trauma focused. I start out by identifying your strengths alongside your treatment goals. I believe that we all hold the answers inside of us, and clarity will come once we slow down, bring in compassion and curiosity, and hold space for all the parts of you. I am trained in psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems and EMDR. I have experience helping people who have struggled with suicidal thoughts, severe depression, chronic PTSD, severe anxiety, and personality disorders. If therapy hasn't worked for you in the past, let me see if I can change that for you.

I have worked with children and young adults in hospitals managing psychiatric crises, worked in sexual assault clinics, domestic violence agencies and therapeutic schools.
I believe strongly in the initial evaluation and formulation of the treatment plan. Knowing your past and how it impacts your present is important in the beginning phase of treatment. I will refer back to this initial evaluation often to assist with growth and mindfulness of the hard work you are doing.

I offer a fresh approach to mental wellness. If parts of your life feel harder than they should, if stress, anxiety, or self-doubt keep getting in your way, there’s a simpler, healthier way forward. The truth is, you’re not broken. You’ve never been broken. No one is. The struggles we face- whether it's trauma, anger, low self-worth, lack of motivation—aren’t signs that something is wrong with us. They come from a simple misunderstanding of how our minds work. The good news? Once you see it things begin to shift naturally. There are many stories in "Beyond Diagnosis" on Amazon; my personal story of depression is one of the chapters

Therapy is about finding what works for you. Do you hate deep breathing? That's fine! Meditation, is not your thing? Cool. Let's use that knowledge to find the tools that will work for you. We will work as a team to explore who you are and build on that to find what works for you. That might mean challenging your mindsets, talking out your experiences, increasing your communication skills, or stopping some of those thoughts that won't stop sticking in your mind. Whatever it takes to help you meet your goals, I have something in my toolbox that will be a good fit. And if I don't, I'll find it. There is no one-size-fits-all all.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
