Every person is unique and I tailor my approach to your needs. In therapy with me, we will be looking at all domains including psychosocial, physical, interpersonal and spiritual in order to have you enjoy your life to its full potential.

For more difficult behaviors to change, or for trauma related issues, I use EMDR to help clients find more clarity it their lives.
I believe that the goal of therapy is to help my clients obtain the insight and coping skills they need to create full and satisfying lives. I am able to see a person's potential, and use their innate strengths to help them rebuild their lives. We do this by creating a therapeutic relationship based on honesty, acceptance and empathy while working towards change.

I have specialties in CBT and EMDR for treatment of anxiety, depression phobias, ptsd and trauma resolution.
One of the most important things to consider in choosing the right therapist is experience. In fact, it can make all the difference in receiving helpful and productive treatment. I am a well trained and seasoned therapist and have maintained a Private Practice in Ridgefield Ct. for the past 30 years. Due to the pandemic, my practice is now fully remote through Telehealth. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, practical and solution focused. As a long practitioner of yoga and meditation, I have expertise in utilizing and integrating the principals and techniques of mindfulness and meditation into the psychotherapy experience.

I have an Integrated Trauma Certification utilizing both EMDR (emdria approved) and TRM techniques.
My goal as a psychotherapist is to meet my clients where they are in their life journey. I have an eclectic approach to therapy, allowing the client to ultimately decide the direction of their work in the counseling process. Listening with respect and validation can move a client to seek their own truth and understanding. I integrate breathing and mindfulness techniques to create a calm environment, and for the client to be able to focus on what is important--assisting the client toward awareness, direction and healing. I believe that Awareness, Honesty and Hope are foundational in healing.

I am trained in EMDR, an evidence based technique for treating trauma.
As a clinician with over 12 years post-graduate experience, I have found the greatest indicator of therapeutic success to be the relationship between the therapist and client. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where we can collaborate together on a treatment plan. While I have extensive experience treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Anger Management, I also have a specifc interest in working with people to adjust to transitions in their lives such as coping with infertility, grief, aging, divorce, chronic illness and parenting concerns.

I have an ear for what you are saying and may not be aware of. Sometimes it is good to have a trained ear listen while you discuss your issues. I have been listening for over 20 years and have heard it all. Listening has made me less judgemental, more compassionate, and my clients tell me, more able to help. I have worked inpatient, outpatient, with all kinds of clients and every diagnosis. I have received special training in EMDR and use it frequently to help resolve trauma.

I specialize in EMDR, DBT and client-centered therapy.
Accepting new clients. Recognizing that you need help is the first step towards making positive changes in your life, but this is often the most difficult part on the path to recovery. Sometimes all we need is someone willing to walk with us. My approach for each client depends on what their current goals are and figuring out the best way to achieve them together.

I am also certified in EMDR and I am a master practitioner in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
Stress, anxiety, trauma and relationship issues come in many forms and tend to mask our awareness of our strengths and resources. Yet, it is the struggles themselves that help us to change and grow. Understanding this paradox is one way to find meaning and purpose in life. My clients benefit from slowing down, tuning in to their inner wisdom, and finding solutions to the stress, emotional pain, or emptiness they experience. My approach is holistic and integrative to help you identify recurring patterns, heal traumas, and make positive changes in your life and in relationships.

I offer individual therapy using emdr, ifs, and psychodynamic therapy.
Trauma (big and small) can create symptoms and experiences of anxiety/depression, low self esteem, feeling 'stuck', negative core beliefs, dissociation, somatic flashbacks, sexual addictions, and shame/guilt. These are some of the symptoms our work together will address. Common goals include decreasing the impact of prior trauma(s), increased self esteem, decreased shame or intrusive thoughts, and healthier core beliefs-to name a few! Clients I work with are motivated to change, and often seek more fulfillment, healthier relationships, and more mental peace.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
