As a psychotherapist, I feel privileged to work with people as they explore the challenges that bring them to treatment. I understand that it takes courage and vulnerability to take the first steps to contact a clinician and come to therapy. It is important to me that you feel safe during our work and that our collaboration is a good match for you. A positive therapeutic relationship creates the opportunity for insight, growth and fulfillment. I am an interactive therapist, who facilitates a treatment environment that is empathic, warm and supportive. I treat adolescents, adults and couples and provide both short and long-term treatment.

I work with individuals, families and couples who are dealing with conflicts, life transitions, and stress management.
The best way to gain control of your out of control life is to focus on the strengths you already have and fine tune your weaknesses so that you can find the inner peace and happiness you will need to help you grow and thrive. The goal of our work together is designed to help you work through your struggles one step at a time and to offer you a fresh perspective and new approaches to problem solving. My clinical approach is a combination of short-term solution focused psychotherapy with a cognitive behavioral approach. We will also incorporate some life coaching techniques as well with the goal being self-empowerment.

I work with adults, teenagers and couples .
In life, we strive to keep our balance and sometimes the struggle can be overwhelming. We might feel stuck, depressed, anxious, or angry. While these emotions can be difficult, they also provide us with opportunities for introspection and to recognize the strengths that lie within us. My approach is integral with emphasis on psychodynamics, schemas and I use mindfulness based techniques. In therapy with me, we will be looking at all domains including psychosocial, physical, interpersonal and spiritual.

My specialty in Health Psychology focuses on the connection between emotions and physical health, the overall mind-body relationship in issues such as anxiety, depression and stress-related behaviors.
The challenges of life are opportunities to learn about ourselves and make changes to bring us more happiness, security and health. If you feel unsatisfied, angry, insecure or stressed, these emotions can lead to anxiety, relationship problems and poor health. I work with clients to eliminate negative thinking, resolve emotional difficulties and to focus on strengths that promote coping and self-growth. Whether your symptoms/patterns are lifelong or you are experiencing them in response to a life stressor or embarking on a new phase of life, I can help you to create the life you want and enjoy by eliminating barriers to change.

If you are experiencing family conflict or noticing your child in distress, it my be time to find a partner to manage issues.
Teens, young adults and families face amplified stress in all realms of their lives today and meeting the demands of academics, social relationships and family closeness can become overwhelming. As a parent, watching your children struggle presents a persistent source of pain. As a child or teen, the struggles erode self-confidence and may provoke anxiety, depression and emotional or behavioral dis-regulation. Partnering with a therapist to scaffold your child's strengths and provide new tools to overcome their challenges is the goal of therapy. Finding practical strategies and a sense of balance is attainable.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
