Additionally, I have experience and passion working with survivors of domestic violence, navigating autism as an adult, health at every size, and perinatal mental health.
I'm Melanie, a licensed clinical social worker in CT and NY. I congratulate you for prioritizing the time to care for yourself. Seeking therapy can be an intimidating task, as we often have to open up, speak to and challenge parts of ourselves we've tucked away. Perhaps you have experienced a big life transition and are seeking helping navigating this next chapter. Perhaps you have noticed the same patterns emerging in your relationships or find yourself going to the same old, familiar place to keep your head above the water. These roads can feel isolating on your own, I would be honored to join you and work together.

Hi, I’m Liz and I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2021. Prior to that I worked in the mental health field for over a decade in various roles, including as a Recovery Support Specialist and case manager. I am comfortable working with people from all walks of life and look forward to helping people discover their wants, needs, and strengths. I recognize seeking help can be difficult, or even intimidating; and our day to day responsibilities often overshadow the important self-care needs we all have.

Therapy does work and can be a valuable tool.. My motto that I have coined is “ Uncover, Discover and Discard. In therapy, I’ll collaboratively work with you to Uncover aspects of your life that may be preventing you from being the best version of yourself. Then we will Discover how negative, toxic, and unhealthful thoughts and behaviors manifest in your life and seek to create new ways of coping and develop strategies to replace those unhelpful behaviors and limiting beliefs. Last, we will Discard any unnecessary belief and/or behaviors that isn’t adding value to your life. Allow me to assist you on your healing journey.

I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who utilizes the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model to explore with clients our complex inner world and make sense of the different aspects of ourselves that contribute to our overall personality (if you’ve ever felt like “a part of me feels this way, and a part of me feels that way”, you know the dynamic!). This approach is holistic and honors every part of a person without asking us to subdue or shut down anything about ourselves, and it allows clients to explore finding new and healthier roles.

I'm here to tell you that exhaustion that you feel is real. It's exhausting getting through the day when the past keeps showing up, the present feels overwhelming, and you don't even begin thinking about the future without spiraling. You might feel a constant sense of unease —that knot in your stomach, the tension in your jaw and ache in your shoulders, the way your mind races when all you want is peace. It's difficult to move forward when you're constantly looking over your shoulder, doubting and berating yourself, and wondering why relationships feel so complicated or painful.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
