On our path in life we all go through times of struggle. Sometimes from unresolved past issues or problems in the present for which we need guidence. I believe we can learn to know ourselves and move through difficulties when we have support from a trusted individual to process with. I work in collaboration with clients to build on natural strengths, while addressing barriers to progress, so they can move toward their goals. I strive to create an emotionally supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can feel safe to share their stories and create insight for action and growth.

Wellness is multi-dimensional. Issues like chronic health conditions, relationship problems, work stress, and unhealthy coping patterns can easily rob us of being able to enjoy life. I offer holistic, trauma-informed care to adults struggling with symptoms of anxiety, mood instability, ADHD, and more.

Anxious, overthinking, and questioning if you’re enough as an LGBT+ person? The pressure to get everything ‘right’... with work, relationships, or even yourself. This can leave you anxious, exhausted, and disconnected. You long for a space where you don’t have to hide who you are or explain your choices! I work with LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodivergent adults, people navigating relationships, those in alternative relationship styles and structures (poly/CNM/kink), and those struggling with anxiety or perfectionism. In our sessions, you can drop the mask and explore your identity, emotions, and relationships in a safe, unapologetic space.

Every person has the right and the capacity to heal, grow and move forward with greater clarity and freedom. Whether you're recovering from something traumatic, going through a major life transition, interested in having healthier relationships or looking to effectively cope with stress and anxiety, certain therapeutic processes can help the mind to release, shift, and heal in a way that is pleasant and interesting, but also gets to the root, so that changes are natural and long lasting.

I often work with clients, who have experienced some type of trauma and are hoping to gain more trust in themselves and regain a sense of control of their lives. I work with both adolescents and adults. Trauma can be many different things, for example physical, emotional or sexual abuse/assault. It can also be a less severe, but challenging life circumstance, such as a complicated relationship, which you struggle managing. Many people get tangled in online sexual material and have a hard time finding a way out of online sexual activities. I can guide and support recovery from unhealthy sexual behaviors.

When you’ve experienced painful life events or struggle with mental health challenges, starting the healing process is not an easy task. In fact it is often easier to avoid it or numb the pain and to continue the same maladaptive patterns. Often times we find ourselves in a life story that is causing unnecessary hardships and emotional pain. We will never be able to re-write our stories until we can actually be present with the painful life experiences that have led us to where we are in life. Therapy gives us the space to start this process.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. This is especially true if you’ve spent much of your life caring for others, surviving difficult relationships, or masking your own needs. Many clients I work with are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, relationship challenges, parenting stress, or major life transitions; they often feel misunderstood, isolated, and disconnected from themselves and others. I frequently support neurodivergent individuals and members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are seeking a therapist who is attuned, affirming, and collaborative.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
