Many Black men carry responsibility, emotion, and expectation without having a space to process what they’re carrying. Over time, this can show up as stress, anger, anxiety, and feeling worn down. I provide individual therapy for Black men and for adolescents who need a space where they are understood. I also help parents and caregivers — especially those raising Black and Brown boys and families in blended or co-parenting systems — build clarity, connection, and consistent discipline. My approach is relational, culturally informed, and focused on helping you understand patterns, reduce overwhelm, and strengthen your family system.

The ideal client is the individual who is ready to both ask for and accept help. Change can be hard and it’s ok if you’re not ready. If however, you are ready and you’re looking for a safe place to better understand your challenges and how to overcome them, I can help.

Are you the guy who’s always holding it together on the outside—even when it’s chaos underneath? Maybe you’ve thought about therapy before but figured it wasn’t for you. You're not interested in sitting around just talking about your feelings. You want something real, practical, and tailored to your life. Whether you're navigating relationship stress, fatherhood, career burnout, or you're noticing your drinking or health habits starting to slide, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Hi, I’m Heather Plourde, LPC. I’m a licensed professional counselor who believes therapy should feel like a real conversation — not a clinical interrogation or a place where you have to pretend you have it all together. I’ve worked across private practice, community programs, and leadership roles in mental health, so I’ve seen just about every version of “life got complicated,” and I know change doesn’t happen through advice alone.

You may be smiling on the outside, feeling hurt on the inside, and unsure of how to seek help. Many people, including Christians—pastors, ministry leaders, and devoted believers—struggle silently with spiritual, mental, and emotional difficulties. You may be battling anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, or strained relationships. Even with strong faith, you might feel spiritually disconnected or emotionally drained. Deep down, you yearn for peace, healing, and answers, yet you fear people knowing your business. Christian counseling offers a safe, Christ-centered space to help you find life's balance and spiritual renewal.

I work with adults and adolescents who feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or weighed down by patterns they can’t quite shift. My clients often navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, substance use, LGBTQ+ identity questions, or men’s issues. Many come to me wanting a space where they can slow down, make sense of their internal experiences, and talk openly without fear of judgment. If you’re looking for a therapist who sees you as a whole person rather than a list of symptoms, you may feel at home here.

Do you want to feel calmer in your body, clearer in your relationships, and more confident setting boundaries? Do you feel responsible for other people’s emotions, even when it costs your own peace? Are you tired of tension at home, walking on eggshells, unsure how to change things without guilt, anger, or shutting down? Maybe you even understand why you struggle, but don’t feel any real relief yet. You can be capable, thoughtful, and self-aware, and still feel stuck in patterns you didn’t consciously choose, even as you keep showing up every day. And none of this means something is wrong with you.

Life will always life — unpredictable, messy, and full of moments that can leave us feeling overwhelmed or disconnected. Sometimes, we find ourselves unable to process or cope with what we’ve experienced. In these moments, it’s important to remember that being our best selves often requires slowing down, looking inward, and addressing what’s holding us back.
True growth comes from self-reflection and healing. As Carl Jung once said, “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” Therapy offers a safe space for that awakening — a place to understand, process, and transform your pain into strength.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
