I work with people facing a variety of challenges, such as stress, low self-esteem, anxiety, life transitions, illness, and school-related stress.
Life can feel overwhelming at times, and despite our best efforts, it can seem like nothing truly changes, or if it does, the change doesn't last. This ongoing struggle can make it easy to lose hope and feel stuck. When you're caught in this cycle, it's important to try a new approach. Instead of withdrawing or repeating the same patterns, reaching out for support can make a big difference. You don't have to go through this alone; you have the ability to heal and transform your life. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Art Therapist, I offer a supportive space where you can express yourself, explore your feelings, and

I help people address a number of concerns ranging from enhancing their self-esteem and coping skills to treating Trauma, Anxiety, Grief, and severe Depression.
I practice a very effective therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART is short in duration and is used to treat trauma, anxiety, depression, and a variety of other psychological conditions. ART uses eye movements to help people see troubling memories in a more healthy and adaptive way.

You don’t have to be in crisis to know that something feels off. Many people I work with feel anxious, overwhelmed, or quietly stuck — often during times of change, pressure, or self-questioning. You might be navigating work, relationships, identity, or big life decisions and finding that anxiety, self-doubt, or emotional overload keeps getting in the way, even when you understand what’s happening and have tried to make sense of it on your own.

I’m sure you’ve been asked this a thousand times… “I’m so impressed—how do you do it?” On the one hand, that question is so satisfying to your inner perfectionist. But on the other, you’re silently screaming that the pressure of trying to do it all is starting to crush you. Your perfectionism shows up in your work. You find yourself working way more hours than your colleagues. It might show up in your relationships. Have you ever gone into a tailspin because you wanted to plan the perfect event for a loved one? Or it might show up within yourself—how you eat, dress, exercise, or maintain your home.

I believe YOU are THE EXPERT of your own life. One's perspective often limits one's view of problems and blocks one's intentions, desires, and dreams. I come alongside you in your journey and guide you as you discover that problems are not permanent attachments but issues which can be transformed into manageable catalysts for change. Change requires a plan which involves steps leading to reachable and measureable goals. Have oppressive feelings of helplessness and victimization become the story of your life? Would you rather optimism and hope? Then I invite you to Rewrite the Story of Your Life.

Please allow me to show you how developing a greater and more positive self-worth can make a difference in your motivation to make positive changes that last.
Addiction compromises a person causing pain. You may be finding it hard to make the changes required to address a substance addiction. You may experience family discord. You may be isolating from others, experiencing a poor diet or one bad decision after another, this is all common in addiction. Your unique story of Alcoholism or Drug Addiction happened in stages, a slippery slope, that only gets worse. But there's good news, you are taking the time to consider getting help now, maybe again, and that's where your recovery starts. Working with you and possibly your family, you will see change, starting now! Dr Mike Hinkley

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
